You do realize there are other large rivers between Punjab and Bengal, right? By the same logic, Ganges/Yamuna also separated people and cultures.

These are plains so they are well connected, one of the reason why the one who conquers rules the region between the mountains of Afghanistan to India's North East.

These plains are well connected.

The sites are not completely excavated,
Exactly. So why are you guy's building fables on top of it? The only solid connection you have (no idea where you come from India but if your from Pakistan's shadow, Indian Punjab then we can exclude you) is that between 1849 and 1947 the British dragooned all this region with bayonets into one lumpen mass of peoples from Afghanistan to Burma, from Tibet to Sri Lanka, from Aden to Dubai. Just to clarify that was British India. We and you dissasembled it in 1947 and it is dyed on 14/15 August. That is why we have independance day celebrations.

That has more to do with the race of the invaders coming from West/Central Asia (vs smaller, weaker people the further you go into the peninsula) and less to do with the geography.

There were times when the Burmese reached all the way into eastern Bengal, but never further. Geography (plains and all) doesn't help when you find an even match.

In all likelihood, the IVC people came from the West/Central Asia and the Indus region might have been their farthest migration eastward.

No They are not entirely from West and Central Asia,People of Mohenjadaro resembles todays Sindi people.

Rivers are the basis for cities and people are living on the banks of rivers since Man started agriculture thousands of years back.

Mohendjadaro and Harappa are just cities of a bigger civilization.

India is a strong Ancient power and it has resources, minerals, climate and man power migrations are the main basis of mix of races. The turkic invasions has to do with the climate change which enabled them to grow more horses and man power.

I am neither asserting nor denying anything. This post is more of a question than a statement.

I have believed that Soviet Union was defeated by USA and Afghanistan. Pakistan merely played a supporting role. But this guy @SecularNationalist said something else.

But then I have also learned that no country’s media can be trusted. I don’t know the ground realities. Who knows @SecularNationalist may actually be correct! Many Americans are racist. Maybe they denied credit to ISI. Someone who is really in the know - someone who has the authentic info about all this affair - should throw light.

So the question is: Who actually defeated Soviet Union?

Soviet Union were defeated by themselves. They were falling behind in military technology due to advances in microelectronics. Other than nukes their weapons were starting to be dated

.
the reason they collapsed was because Gorbachev made reforms in the SU. That was it for them. The reforms were made due to economic woes caused by the war in Afghanistan, to my understanding.

.
Strange. Not a single vote for Afghanistan. Just a single vote for USA-Afghanistan combination. But many votes for Pakistan.

It was USA that defeted USSR in every sense they outsmarted them in every sense of the "Game" and both Afghanistan and Pakistan are paying that price even now

.
Soviet Union wasn't defeated, it collapsed and Gorbachev was singular responsible for it. Afghanistan yes, its defeat there may have weakened it.

partly right acutally it was the arms race and lack freedom to comman man and inside highly state controlled internal system that led to the implossion of soviet union than anything else
