it's saying 8 new f16's, so i assume that would be more block52's or maybe block 60's ?

I'm very sceptical. Pakistan should not be buying anymore F-16s with its own money. These aircraft have stringent usage conditions. More importantly, we need this money to buy aircraft which aren't sanction prone such as Su-35 or Chinese fighters. The F-16s are good fighters, but we need to look beyond.

I think this is a US proposition and we need to ditch it. They are sweating at the moment when they see how rapidly the relationship between Pakistan and Russia/China is developing. The Americans obviously don't have anything else to offer apart from F-16s or soya beans.

I'll take the soya bean over F16 any day.


No seriously we need to let go the obsession with F16s. Government should interfere in PAF procurement matters & decide the next fighter with agreement from PAF.

As per reports back in 2000 US approves 18 C/D block 52+ Jets to Pakistan with option of 18 more but due to earth quick Pakistan opted not to get more f-16. But now financial conditions are quite stable so Pakistan avail that old offer and going to buy 8 F-16 C block 52+ with an option of 10 more.

They bought SU-30, PAF answer was ayf sola. We brought block 52 + MLU was the reason to cater Flanker with modern goodies it can fight in Pak Soil and even offensive mission you are highly underestimating Block 52 .Only significance lacking is IRST .

Lets see when IAF inducts and in what number ,Rafael just like F16 was developed primarily for ground attack so we need to understand what role it can play also Rafael has no history of A2A engagments where as F16 has his days even against typhoons

We already have approval both from Govt and congress for 36 Block 52+ F16s ,We have exercised 18 remaining 18 are approved ,Now some one clarifies me are we going for 18+8 (26 Is this the current Sq strength for F16 in PAF) or is it 8 from 18 approved due to funds .

The article says that 14 combat air crafts were delivered this year in may. It seems all the embargoed F-16s have been delivered. Previously we had 76 jets. The addition of these 14 take the number to 90. And now 8 more will make 98 jets.
Can anyone tell the exact number of F-16s in PAF?

We got:
40 in 1983
14 in 2005 (these are ones that article mentions, the articles was about how much USA has given Pakistan post 9/11)
18 in 2010 (Blk 50/52)
13 in 2014 (ex-Jordanian)
2 in 2015 (embargoed ones)
9 lost due to different reasons
So at the moment we have 78.
