In reality, it is Duan Yongping quietly ruling the world.

His BuBuGao group sells more phones than Samsung+Huawei combined, possibly even with Apple added.

One of my former coworkers once worked for Duan, when he was still in his garage factory days. Now he went to work in Apple.

I should have exploited that friendship, while I still could.

1. Huawei
2. BBK with their Oneplus, Oppo, Vivo, and Realme
3. Xiaomi

Xiaomi's second quarter shipments in Spain grew 151% year on year, with a market share of 37%, continuing to rank first.

In the top five smartphone vendors, Xiaomi and Apple were the only two that saw smartphone shipment growth in the second quarter, with Apple growing 42 percent year on year.

Globally, Huawei overtook Samsung for the first time in shipments in the second quarter to become No. 1. Xiaomi and OPPO were ranked No. 4 and 5 respectively in global shipments, according to data released by Canalys last week.

They call you poor if you dont have iPhone and others in schools especially up to college probably which is a huge market.

iPhone is no longer a symbol of identity in China, and I'm not a fan of Huawei, I always buy budget king with the bootloader unlockable.

2. BBK with their Oneplus, Oppo, Vivo, and Realme
There is a dozen more smartphone brands he runs, and he has businesses in industries far from glamorous, like industrial electronics, appliances, etc.

Duan himself (outside of BBK) owns few obscure domestic appliance brands which sell like cookies in India, and Africa.
