Which Weapon Should be used for Home Defence? by Zaid Hamid

@Azad-Kashmiri that TT which you say is junk of a pistol has spilled more than its share of blood

Bhai jaan, we talking about home defence where an accurate weapon is a must. This weapon has a tendency to jam and the accuracy is absolutely trash. It's heavy junk! And this is coming from a person who's not physically small. This weapon is not good for women, as well. Remember bhai, we're talking about home defence.

Not so difficult here in A.K. I've got licenses for 9mm and AK. The rest of you comment is surprising, what city are you talking about? A.K is really safe even though i carry a side-arm for just exercising my freedom.
which comment is surprising ?

I will prefer this while driving.

Last time I checked with authorities to import bullet proof laminate for cars, and a police officer told me that the car owner will have to obtain permission before its installation, which is not that easy to get. He will have to tell the authorities if he is in danger. Only then he will be allowed to install the bullet proof film on his car.

When I asked why is this so, he said because criminals may get this installed and police will have to suffer. I understood his point of view but told him that this should be installed on all the police vehicles. But then this discussion diverted to budget etc etc.

The rest of the post about the need for personal security, vigilance, etc. Like i asked what city are you talking about? Here in Azad Kashmir, its really peaceful and the only people who have personal security are the sayasdan, not the rich. I agree about being vigilant as that's common sense, but sounds like almost paronia with the check list you gave. That must be for high profile, not for the common folk.

In India it's almost impossible to get a licence for any kind of semiautomatic pistol or revolver forget automatic rifles, and to mention here 9mm bore is prohibited for civilians. Even somehow if you get the licence, the price for acquiring any revolver or pistol is sky high. Prices starts from 1500 USD for a substandard govt made revolver/ pistol. Import of any kind of small arms for civilian is ban since 1987. You can only purchase a second hand foreign gun(imported before 1987) and that too in poor condition pricing from 8000$ to 50000$. Usually 12 bore single barrel licences are given with strict control on yearly ammunition quota, and you have to renew your licence in every 3 years with strong valid reason for extension.

Few things Prohibited Bore in India, means that any caliber used by security forces (military/law enforcement) are prohibited for civilian use. i.e 9mm (Luger i.e. 9x19mm) is prohibited but not 9x18mm makarov, or 0.380acp (i.e. 9.02 x17.30 mm).

I am not sure about the 1987 rule you mentioned, I don't recall seeing anything like that in NAGRI, AFAIK As long as you have a license and a dealer who is willing to import you can import a new gun.

We have enough ammo at home that no thief or robber will risk entering without loosing some limbs since we normally fire to disable them; not to kill them and we had two robbers break into our home almost 9 years ago and I saw how my father and uncle disabled them by shooting at their hands and legs and then handed them over to the police when they arrived two hours later. I wanted to test my mughal bow on them but my father didn't allow me :(

I wrote that list as a reply to querry concerning vigilance. Vigilance irrespective of city or country because accidents, mugging, theft etc can happen anywhere in the world. Google and read the news of any city/country. Make use of youtube also.

If vigilance or a list makes you paranoid, dont follow it.

High Profile assets assign responsibility of vigilance on security personnel, so they themselves dont need to worry about it. Still, it varies from asset to asset and contract to contract. In any case, they dont need to follow a list as they are paying someone else to do it for them.

Its the common folk who need to be vigilant and take care of their own safety. The same reason why you keep guns.

Anything .40 or larger for interiors. 9mm over penetrates a bit too much for my liking for home defense duties where family and neighbors are a concern.

I carry a Sig 226 at work.

Compact, but hits like a sledge hammer.

I you could get a permit for one in either India or Pakistan, it's an expensive (1200 USD) but quality choice.

you deserve +rating for this post.

Having maids/servants for house and kids is a trend. Having a guard isnt a trend as such.

If driving a car:
1. lock all doors
2. keep an eye if being followed by a suspicious bike or car for a certain distance, try changing route to be sure.
3. choose roads wisely knowing the amount of traffic at certain times of the day
4. stop the car at red light with distance of one car from next car (and pray the bikers dont fit in that gap isntantly)
5. better to have a second seater
6. Install DASH CAM (best for insurance purposes and law cases involving accidents)
7. Dont park car in isolated places. park car near banks or shops with security cameras.
8. better to have an accompanying friend or relative if possible.
9. Go out of house only if necessary.
10. Avoid ATM's at places notorious for mugging. Better to use cheque in bank timings or in emergency ask a friend for cash at hand.
11. Make all business transactions or private (like selling car/house etc) inside the bank
12. Use familiar roads and tell family truthfully where you are off to before you leave home.
13. Dont draw down windows of car to beggars.
14. If a stranger approaches car and wants to talk, dont pull down window, dont unlock car.
15. Dont give hails.
16. Report suspicious activity or accidents to police. dont make car an ambulance and carry off injured people. call an ambulance. The paramedics and ambulance are paid by state to do their jobs. you are not.
17. Dont listen to songs loudly that distract your concentration.
18. make use of high beam where necessary in darkness or to check something/someone at a distance.
19. Dont smoke as you may need to open windows.
20. Be courteous and polite following road rules but firm.
21. Avoid Road Rage. Road belongs to everyone. Dont instigate a situation.

Now he is soon going to launch weapon training school to earn money.....

For TT now most of the TT support double stacking or row magazine either Chinese or local made (up 14 + 1 rounds)
and they have simple safety feature to lock the un-armed or armed (chambered) Pistol.
But now all the 14 or 20 rounds .30 TT Pistols (extended Grip) are Chinese or Local Darra made...Russia only produce 6+1 round TT pistols which are rare now.

(Darra Made 15 Round TT)
These pistols also comes with special magazines which allow user to fire in burst mode which is highly dangerous but also prohibited.

Personally l have a Tokarev and a Beretta as handguns and a Henry rifle. Have never used for self defence so far.

Zaid Hamid advising on self defence is the ultimate oxymoron.

not just self defence he is also advising people to take Gun and Assault Gun training and also hard exercises and be prepared for war. That is the part I agree with him these days he is speaking sectarian crap that is the problem.

We have minimum of 6 inch thick brick walls in all our homes (both interior and exterior) and there is zero chance of any handgun bullet ever crossing to next room or house.

You have no idea about gun prices in Pakistan. $1200 Sig is considered free here as even a plastic Glock costs more then US$3000 a pop. a 9mm hollow point is dollar a pop, even cheap Chinese round is about 50 cents per round.
