Which version of MiG-29 operated by IRIAF?

.
I just wondered which version of MiG-29 operated by IRIAF, at Wikipedia said 9.12B and another guy at quora said SMT variant
[LOL!] SMT??!!,I wish!.These are bog standard mig29a without even the ability to use the r77/aa12,pretty basic actually.

. .
They are the most basic model ie "fulcrum A" bought back in the early 90s,as such they do not even have the ability to use fire and forget Beyond Visual Range [BVR] air to air [A2A] missiles like the R77[AA12-Adder]
The SMT variant wasnt developed until the late 90s[1998 I think] so sadly iran does not operate this variant.

I think it's worth noting that Iran has been modifying these jets, and their actual specifications are open to speculation

i always wondered why iran doesnt buy stuff from russia or china, even when there were no sanctions..
seems they are pretty much content with the non existent airforce they have

Yes,that could well be the case.Unfortunately since the revolution the air force has always been the iranian militaries "red headed stepchild"
ie it pretty much has the lowest priority for everything including funding sadly. If it were anything like the f14 modernisation program then it probably would have been done only to a couple of test beds at most.Personally I think it would be awesome if iran indigenously upgraded them to something like fulcrum C standard with R77 capability, but I just dont see it happening.I think any upgrades would probably be fairly basic,I`ve heard talk of multifunction displays, more modern coms and iff and I would also imagine they probably have the ability to use irans indigenously developed pgms and I`ve also heard that iran can refurb the engines on its own now with local production of components like engine hot sections. What have you heard exactly about any upgrades?.

Iran did buy from both of them...but there were problems. The chinese stuff [F-7 Airguard] was really pretty crude to put it mildly, tho its aircraft have gotten a lot better lately, and the russian stuff was better but it still had its problems, and russian aftermarket support was traditionally pretty poor as well, plus the russians were very politically unreliable with deals being cancelled or only partly supplied because of western pressure, basically neither country was a great or reliable supplier.

Iran has both MiG-29A 9.12A and UB

But if anyone think both their engines, Radars & Avionics haven't been upgraded they are delusional as to what upgrades Iran keeps that info classified
Well hope so but in reality we saw a lot of newer generation of avionics built for f-4 and f-5 but whenever we see a picture of inside those airplanes we see them with old equipment.

Anyone????

Iran operates different type of MIG 29. Many Migs from Iraq came to Iran when USA started invading Iraq. There have been few STM spotted in Syria not sure whole they belong Iran or Syria.

Russia has also upgraded Iranian MIGs recently.

All you see inside the cockpit are screens and gages and no Iran hasn't upgraded it's aircrafts with multiple MFD to replace the gages

All Iranian F-4's are equipped with upgraded radars and Iranian F-5's are a different story
