Even with such thin forces the allies were having a hard time at western front.

All thanks to russia you arent a one developed and leading nation right now.

Pakistani-American here,

The answer is America. Not because if I dont vote for the US i'll be sent to a CIA Blacksite, but;

1. Lead-Lease Act
2. Industry
3. Oil
4. Leadership

Before the US entered the war, the Brits were stuck in a losing War of Attrition. While they held the line against the Japanese, had their backs to the wall in Egypt, it's supply and communication lines were on the verge of collapse. If the US didn't start escorting supply convoys to the UK they would have had the surrender.

$11 Billion+ was sent to the Brits; food, oil, aircraft, ammunition, machinery, and cloths, etc. Combine that with loaned Naval vessels, American volunteers for the British forces. Come on. The US had the greatest amount of forces in the assault on Nazi Europe, the Brits deferred to General Eisenhower as supreme commander.

The Soviets bore the brunt of the causalities. Sure they were able to move the factories to the west, regroup and reassert the pressure, but when would the pressure come to Stalin to accept a ceasefire?

Americans do know how it's Allies fought against the Axis, but it's not going to ignore or allow it's sacrifices to be ignored by anyone.

The Allies won the war.

my vote goes to Iran, today I read they shooo away French and US naval forces from Gulf of aden.

USA, though the UK & USSR did good too.

BTW if you are interested in WW2, you should play the Hearts of Iron-Series by Paradox.

What is the context of 'contribute' ? Is it Russia ? Why ? Was that 'contribution' voluntary ? Of course not. When Germany invaded Russia, Russians have no choice but to respond and given the geography no one else could take the brunt of the Nazi's onslaught other than the Russian people themselves.

In terms of national humiliation, China contributed heavily because a large swath of Chinese territory -- Manchuria -- was taken by Imperial Japan. Then when Japan was booted out, Russia looted Manchuria when morally speaking, whatever that Japan built in Manchuria, those things belonged to China by right and would have helped China immensely after the war. Stalin looted Manchuria under the argument of war damages to Russia. China was screwed twice, first by an enemy, later by an ally. Not only that, during the war, China, in both Nationalist and Communist camps, fought Japan. No matter how inefficient and poorly were the fighting, China as a whole did contribute.

What is a 'contribution' depends on what country can bring to the fight and based upon circumstances that either allowed or forced that country to contribute. Every 'contribution' was a distraction to the enemy and in hindsight, we can say that without so-and-so factor, other members of the alliance would have to 'contribute' more in other ways, either by man or materiel.

Over 26 million soviet citizens perished in the war including over 20 million Russians. So in terms of human sacrifice that is enormous. US contributed with it's vast resource without which victory would have taken a longer time. If human bodies count I would say former soviet republics still bores the scar unlike anyone else (except perhaps Germany !)

What a stupid thread,

There was only one country and that was the USA,helped the Soviets with weapons and money and the British with weapons and money.
Without the USA,Germany and Japan would have won.
Those voting for the USSR dont know nothing about WWII.
Stupid dumb thread!

USSR offcourse.
Explain why ?

Blind blond or just ignorent??????

Which country contributed most to the defeat of Nazi Germany?
this is a simple answer.

material support US contributed the most
technology wise UK contributed the most like radar and cracking of the enigma machine
manpower and blood USSR contributed the most.

united we stand or divided we fall.

Don't forget Russia got stuff too
Lend-Lease - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"A total of $50.1 billion (equivalent to $656 billion today) worth of supplies were shipped, or 17% of the total war expenditures of the U.S.[2] In all, $31.4 billion went to Britain, $11.3 billion to the Soviet Union, $3.2 billion to France, $1.6 billion to China, and the remaining $2.6 billion to the other Allies."

Russia:
"In total, the US deliveries through Lend-Lease amounted to $11 billion in materials:
over 400,000

and 1.75 million tons of food.

Roughly 17.5 million tons of military equipment, vehicles, industrial supplies, and food were shipped from the Western Hemisphere to the USSR, 94% coming from the US."

Aircraft Deliveries
" 32.000 motorcycles, 13.000 locomotives and railway cars, 8.000 anti-aircraft cannons and machine-guns, 135.000 submachine guns, 300.000 tons of explosives, 40.000 field radios, some 400 radar systems, 400.000 metal cutting machine tools, several million tons of foodstuff, steel, other metals, oil and gasoline, chemicals etc."

$11.3B is roughly $150B in today's dollars. That's more than we have given to Israel over the years!!! The Russians are worse than the Chinese when it comes to being thankless to us for bailing out their @sses.

Which contibuted the most depends on how you calculate contribution.

In dollars USA

1. U.S : $296 billion (roughly 4104 billion dollars today)
2. Germany : $272 billion
3. Britain : $120 billion
4. Soviet Union : $192 billion
5. Italy : $94 billion
6. Japan : $56 billion

In lives Russia and left off your list a second to China or on a per capita basis Poland that lost 16% of their population.

If not for the combined effort you would be asking the question in German.

Well,we all know that people in this site are biased when it comes to the US.Good luck telling them how the Germans had to stretch forces in Northern Africawhere they were eventually defeated by US intervention,to Italy where the US landed,to France-Normandy landings ,and even keep significant troops in Greece, the Balkans,Norway for fear of US landings. These troops would have done wonders in the Eastern Front.Add to this the merciless bombings on Germany's industrial complexes ,Land Lease for the Russians and the fact that the US also fought Japan in the Pacific thus preventing them to open a second front against the USSR and we clearly see who was the biggest contributor to victory in WW2.Just because the Americans didn't throw their boys to certain death in human wave attacks so that the statistics would show 20 million of them dead at the end doesn't diminish the US's key contribution.

Well then again the whole forum knows you're hatred towards Russia and anything related to them.. And others particularly from the US and Western Europe has that same view.. I'm not to judge but it's condescending to accuse others , When every body has their own bias point of view

Nazis themselves.

Invasion of Russia was their downfall. IT was not needed. They should have concentrated on Europe only.

In a way, we should be thankful to them. For we would not have got our country and independence from British Raj if we it was not weakened by Germans.

Nonsense,i'm a friend of Russian culture and people, where did you get the the hatred part ? I might be somewhat critical of their foreign policy sometimes but that doesn't mean "hate".

Regardless of my views or your views history shows us ONE thing: the US was the one ,most decisive contributing factor in defeating Nazi Germany. This can't be changed by biased opinions,it's just how it was.
