Not nice.. Read an article on this same mindset you have a day or two back..
Let me elaborate on this point, because Arundhati is a complex personality and my view towards her does justice to her in my personal opinion.
I love her works as an Author. Apart from a few scenario issues. I became a fan of her even more when I read an interview and she called out out the hypocrisy of Kerala society. It's like I saw my views mirrored through her. It is a highly hypocritical and self righteous community.
I agree with her on crony capitalism and I agree with her on the isolation and exploitation of the Tribals in India (adivasis).
I know why she makes outrageous statements. She feels that she can use her notoriety to draw attention to the issues. What I have a problem with, is her support of the naxalites. This is the same organisation that uses child soldiers (documented by BBC news), blowing up of school and killing tribals who are opposed to them.
And it seems increasingly that in a race to one up herself in making outrageous statements, she has slowly become a parody of herself. Especially on economic issues.
Don't get me wrong, I think there is a dearth in India for female writers like Arundhati Roy. I admire her guts, especially with the sort of B.S. criticism of how she looked, her sexuality.
I do wish more female writers, academics, actresses and journalists do take on subjects that are taboo in Indian society. Like sexuality, like gender relations and homosexuality. I abhor the kind of criticism thrown at them, mainly directed at the supposed number of Men they sleep with or the supposed promiscuity because of how they dress, or bizzarely, what ideologies they espouse.
My opposition to her is purely based on ideology, as I think her brand of champagne socialism is going to ruin India.
But as a person, as an author I have no compunction to admit I greatly admire her as a person, certainly for taking on the patriarchy.
Hope you understand.
And I agree with @
