where will grounded A-5'S go?

i think these planes are inter-continental missiles in their own right....modify them...cut them from the center...add aerodynamic fuel tank in the center and then weld them back......modify its wings so that it can carry 2 baber or radd cruise missiles under each wing....Flying them from karachi or gawadar and just 20 meters from the sea-level you can take them anywhere....dont sell them...dont scrap them....dont put them on squares........Consult your best aeronautical engineers and come up with something unique which u can unleash at the appropriate time :cheers:

mate this is the most absurd idea ever y use a5 at all what u r saying is an aircraft that can travell long distance y cut it open when we can build a new aircraft .hear some reasons
1: A5 have an old structure thus even after modification i dont think it can take the beating of huge load and such long flight
2: if designing aircraft was as easy as cutting it frm middle and adding a bigger fuel tank then idont think countries would be spending billions on r&d
3:babur is a surface to surface missle as of today only raad can be launched frm air and that is easily been done by miraj and in future by jf17

Give them and their data to engineers. Yes a old structure but still they may learn something good. Also it will give them real time experience + liberty to do anything.

Don't make fun he's got a point. But the truth is to modify these jets and to keep them operational will need constant maintenance and money. Pakistan could sell these they could also experiment with different technologies on them, but sadly Pakistan there really isn't much we need them for, but it would be interesting if they could turn these jets into UAVs that continue to serve as they did but this time unmanned.

These are A-5s not F-22A (5)s so there wont be much ( I am too optimistic in saying this as well) on offer for PAF.

, but sadly Pakistan there really isn't much we need them for, but it would be interesting if they could turn these jets into UAVs that continue to serve as they did but this time unmanned.
This is a possibility, however, one must know, whether this will be possible or not? given the analogue systems of A-5s, digitization and then installation of Unmanned handling system itself will be cumbersome. So why not target drones, they are cheaper and handy as well

Pakistan retires A-5 'Fantan'

The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) retired up to 30 of its Chinese-supplied A-5 'Fantan' ground attack aircraft in March, citing the need to field newer technologies provided by the JF-17 'Thunder' aircraft that it is producing with China.

A senior Pakistan government official told on 15 April that the batch of 30 A-5s will be kept in storage and "serviced regularly" until a customer can be found. "No such customer is in sight at the moment," the official said.

"The A-5 has left behind a reputation of being a very capable workhorse which never caused any disappointment for the purpose it was built for - to provide close support to ground forces," the official added.

The A-5s were supplied by China in 1984, shortly after Pakistan began receiving its first batch of Lockheed Martin F-16 fighter aircraft from the US. Western officials suspect that some A-5s were modified by Pakistan to make them capable of carrying and delivering nuclear weapons, although this was not independently confirmed.

The JF-17, which the PAF plans to make its main fighter, began induction into air force squadrons this year. understands that more than 40 JF-17s will be in service by end of 2011, by which time Pakistan will have acquired the capability to produce 50 to 60 per cent of its components.

If they are in such a good condition that can be sold to any other country, then why we are not trying to convert them into target drone or use them some research.
