Where did the U.S. go wrong in Afghanistan?

They got lithium, uranium, copper, oil, and gold out of Afghanistan.

They were very busy.

Lets not forget the drug trade and opium which florurished under "democracy" while under the Talibs was nill

where they went wrong?? the generals didnt see this bloody Russian movie before setting expectations.

You have a very vivid imagination.

Hi

Imagination. When it becomes reality is very un- nerving.

the 1st gulf war—i always had a feeling that initially the US was okay with iraq taking over Kuwait.

But then someone suggested something. And i could not put my finger on it.

First the permission and then a change of mind.

My suspicion got confirmed by a famous writer Lee Childs where he wrote in his book about the clash of power positioning between US armored corps against the US Infantry after Berlin wall came down.

US armor corps was done and dusted after Berlin wall came down. Tgere was no enemy to fight.

US infantry stepped upfront to take charge. Congress and senate was ready to do to the Tanks what they did to the A10 warthog—-.

And then from nowhere Saddam steps up to the plate.

That is what the US tank divisions had prepared for for decades. A massive tank battle to see who is the boss.

Saddam threw them a line and the US armor wrapped it around its body and grabbed it tight.

Again, a vivid imagination, the US has basically spent trillions of dollars, thousands of lives, prestige, and allowed China to become almost a peer power.

For what, Afghanistan and Iraq were already $hit holes (with all due respect), they are slightly worse off $hit holes.

There is nothing in Afghanistan to conquer. It’s just a walkway a stopover for conquerers. From Central Asia/ Persia into India and vice versa.

Hi

Thank you. We have used a million words to explain the situation but then with just two lines you just made it so clear to understand the issue.

AFG had always been a way point where many an an army has been caught off guard.

Hi

That spending of trillions of dollars has brought into service technologies never seen or heard before.

Not a fair exchange, the US was in its peak in the 90's it was the global hyper power, OBL wanted the US and fight on the ground in the greater mid east.

Unfortunately the US fell into the trap.

lol...nope....they sprung a trap for the rest of the world...

China's rise hasn't been easy.......and for it to confront the US....it'll need allies it doesn't have....whereas the US has multiple allies that'll take the US over China anytime of the day.

Pakistanis depend on China for a lot....China has to save itself from the US before it saves Pakistan. :D

And you're also ignoring that just like Pax Britannica lead the way to Pax Americana......the fall of the US (however slow) will lead to the rise of Israel.

Even then, the US hasn't "fallen" yet....but it is butchering one Muslim country after the other every decade...

Trillions of $$$ don't matter when you have well functioning economy & MIC (Military Industrial Complex) along with a good pool of taxpayers from which to replenish the lost, or should I say invested, $$$??

@MastanKhan @Genghis khan1 have laid out the rest of the game plan very nicely. Only fools would ignore a current superpower and put their hopes on a rising one, which also likes to plays solo...

Exactly..US dollar is world reserve money, which means every currency is backed by US dollar. Courtesy of 1970s Saudis PetroDollar agreement with US. US dollars is not back by gold. Guess what does that mean.. US can print money at will. That’s right... Trillions and Trillions doesn’t means jack sh!t when you design the system and rigged it to your advantage. US don’t have to buy dollar to pay off loans in dollar. They just print it, out of nowhere devaluing other nations currency.

5G is a just small part of the whole warmachine....heck it hasn't been applied to warfare yet.

5G also has inherent risks to human health....who wants a population full of cancer and other diseases just so you can get 100 times faster download speed??

And don't forget who invented the Internet.....DARPA.....and the US isn't lagging far behind China in terms of 5G.

Also, there's a big difference in attaining tech and using it for warfare....we all know gunpowder comes from Ancient China (used in fireworks).....and that the Arabs & other Muslims powers of the time (Ottomans & Mughals) perfected the art of gunpowder weaponry and the Europeans adopted and perfected it.

Similarly, a lot of Chinese strategic A2/AD weaponry is based on a elaborate killchain...which the US can disrupt anytime it wants to.....which is why China is buildings AC's and expanding its surface fleet.

On the other hand, DARPA & SpaceX are looking into sending Sats (of all types) & various other "payloads" into space whenever they want to...basically on a short notice....which will play a much more crucial role since whoever can replace and put new sats in orbit (basically eyes and ears) will have more chances of winning future conflicts.

Also because SpaceX has pioneered the use of reusable rockets (lower cost launches and more...) whereas the rest of the world, including China, is playing catch up.

As we all know, Air Superiority matters in modern warfare....similarly, whoever controls Space or/& dominance in it will decide future warfare. And Space is where the US leads and has lead since the 70's. :enjoy:

Where did they go wrong?.....thats easy, they invaded the country in the first place. If the us had had any fvcking brains at all they would have said "We`re not falling for that old trick,we saw what happened to the russians"
