As for where the money went, most went to creditors (banks) foreign and national who have been propping up your industry for decades.

If it wasn't for the banks being paid off, PIA wouldn't have been able to induct additional A320s and 777s for example. Note, I'm not agreeing with the use of the funds, just noting where it has gone.

As for this silly controversy over off shore accounts, if it is legal, what's the issue? If anything, the fact that individuals and corporations are using these accounts is more of an indictment on the country's tax laws than anything (I'm lumping the UK in with Pakistan here)

As an example (sorry, another one with an aviation context), PIA channeled in excess of $120m through offshore accounts to Boeing in 2003-2004 to pay for B777-200ER aircraft. As such, they avoided various custom and tax costs that would have been due to the Pak exchequer had they not leased them through an offshore shell company.

I might have termed that as timidity if not outright cowardice but now I am begining to think your smart and I am stupid. I am now also thinking of admitting defeat as well. It's going to take another generation before my views carry any traction with the average "educated" Pakistani. Reason, logic are indeed in rare supply in Pakistan. Supersition, hype, disjointed thinking, half baked education, lack of any critical thinking pretty well precludes any chance of major change in direction for Pakistan.

I only hope the Chinese can kick some damned sense into them. Mind you I have my doubts now. They will have big job on their hands and I don't mean the steel, concrete, bricks, tarmac, cranes, rails that they are laying in Pakistan. I mean the mindset that goes with it to turn CPEC into success.

I want to see how hyper atheists will tango with hyper mullahs.
