I believe Vietnam's development is entirely due to their effort with no support from U.S. in anyway. There was not even diplomatic relation till 1995. The first ambassador was appointed in 1997 (after the last one left in 1975). Germany and South Korea did get some assistance in the beginning.

I asked why don't Bangladeshis make the comparison. Why don't they? Why only compare themselves to Pakistan? How about answer the question? Vietnam had more bombs dropped on it than all of ww2 combined yet Bangladesh's infrastructure after 1971 was more or less left intact - you had a massive head start compared to Vietnam yet your position is unimaginably pathetic compared to Vietnam but you still puff your chest when it comes to Pakistan comparison. Now, ask your American expatriate to give more and more money to your country now that many of your industries have stopped functioning and are moving to Chittagong.

And for the record, Vietnam , despite have more bombs dropped on it than the entirety of ww2 is LEAPS and BOUNDS ahead of Bangladesh. Bangladesh had more or less it's infrastructure intact and barely has any services for its people. It's people leave EN MASS for other countries every year - how many of Vietnam's residents leave it for better economic prospects? NONE.

I work with students from Bangladesh (they are flooding UK universities and colleges) and bribery is a way of life there - if you secure a job in BD it's not sufficient - you've got to give.....*gifts* shall we say. Successive authoritarian regimes, democratic or otherwise, have failed to provide an identity to the people of Bangladesh. With policies directly governed by Delhi, expect no resolution of any kind on the matter.

Ever since the administrative unit was carved out of Pakistan, the only instance where it gets a mention is when populists use it to threaten political stability. There is no inherent motivation in Pakistan to draw parallels with the former territory.
