What's new

When will Pakistan replace MG3 Machine Gun...

Minimi is the STD MG for 3 major SOF units now, though in 5.56mm. Since all 3 major SOF units, SSG, SSW, SSGN are using AR mags in the same caliber, the minimi can also take those mags if needed.

But Sir since my service years altough i served in a different domain but never heard (2005).

May be after that P.A induct it i am not aware of that but for sure not in large numbers.
Regards,

Probably a Russian PK MG derivative.

That is a PKM with plastic/fiber furniture..

PK is pretty much the standard LMG for the FC special forces..

I as EX-Soldier will always prefer the MG-3 over any other machine gun, at the moment there exists no other machine gun which outperforms the MG-3, take this as fact ! The only future development could be to upgrade and produce lighter variants of the MG-3 ! Even the german army is bringing back the MG-3 from his reserve stocks because the new machine gun cant fill their recruitment !

Enter the MG3KWS (“Kampfwertsteigerung” or “Combat Improvements”), an upgraded version of the MG3 being developed by Rheinmetall and Tactics Group.

A modernization kit will allow existing MG3 inventory to be upgraded to the MG3KWS. It addspicatinny rails for optics and accessories, an adjustable stock, improved sling and a very nifty fore grip that doubles as a carry handle.

There is a very old saying among the engineering & maintenance circles “Don’t fix it unless it is broke”. Same can be applied here.

MG3 is a reliable general purpose machine gun with a decent rate of fire and range of about 1000 meters which has been in use by armies of over 30 countries since the 1960’s and Pak Army appears to be satisfied with its performance.

There is no point in changing for the sake of ‘Change. New is not necessarily better. Unless we find a weapon which is significantly superior, it would be a waste of money to replace it.

M-249 or some FN variants of the same. May be others also. But why replace , MG3 is nice.
M249 is a light machine gun, with 5.56 round. MG3 is heavier and more powerful, uses 7.62 round comparable to M-240.
Not clear at this stage, i can confirm about the FN MiniMi.

PA is evolving, if they indeed interested in FN MiniMi than this mean they are restructuring their infantry formations as per NATO standards. FN MiniMi will be used as squad automatic weapon. Also the induction of new rifles, that can mounts optics and can be aim to shoot accurately even with Iron site (without optics). 1 shot 1 kill idea, unlike previous PA doctrine of spraying from the hip to clear the area.

MG3 is a beast, the sound of it's alone scare the opponent $hitless.

There is no point in changing for the sake of ‘Change.

I don't think PA is replacing MG3, they are most probably looking for 5.56 type squad automatic weapons for their fire team or squad level formation based on NATO. 5.56 MG can't replace 7.62 MG.

Wrong caliber it is in 5.56 if I am right. You guys don't use that round apart from your special forces what u need is a decent LMG in 7.62 AK to compliment the ak's in use in the western front

It was a typo. US uses all sort of machine guns, all calibers in every shape and form.

We are producing it at home and rest you can understand.

Very reliable and very cheap in price further upgrades can be easily done. If not license production issues.

aint that a good thing, why bother looking elsewhere when its doing the job splendidly

Quick question why does the FC use PK`s rather than MG3 ??

PKs are capured weapons !

Kickback plus need more advance weapon MG3 have some sortcomings like get hot very soon you can't replace the barrel, no optical sights etc

I could replace the barrel in less than 25 seconds !
