When Portugal Surrendered to India!

ohh so u guys were not before 1947 , anyways today we are independent and strong and rising and a force to reckon with, while pakistan after 65 yrs is so weak that is bombed everyday without even an apology

Funny thing is, we were ruled under British for 100 years whereas India was rulled for more than 200 years... Similarly, the Mughol empire was much more resisted in mordern day Pakistan and India dissapointingly was whitewashed

Leave your 'reckoning force' aside as past cannot be changed. For the rest of your post this also includes your country, linked to global terorrism.

Forgive me for asking this, but is this a Pakistani Defence Forum or an Indian Defence Forum? Half the threads here all seem to be product of India's active propoganda machine. Please guys do something about it. Watching Bollywood is bad enough. Having to put up with it on defence forums is getting way worse!

This is just how Indians were reacted in 1971 war. Portugal troops in Goa were surrounded by Indians on all sides Besides that, they were thousands of kms away from Portugal. So you can't really celebrate to that.

this is how you fight and win a battle! surround him, seperate him and destroy him!
No one will fight the enemy head on head according to ancient warrior traditions. This is war: You either win it or loose it, nothing else matters

The Portuguese left their mark on Goan culture that is no lie but it was done with bloodshed and the destruction of Hindu temples something which does not get much mention I bet in schools in Lisbon.
Do they (Portugal) still hold grudge about that loss?

At least not as late as 1960s...

The point is in 47, 54, 60s we got more territory....by having Nepal, Bhutan , BD almost a 3 autonomous state of India...and you guys loosing territory in 80s(as per ur claim: Siachin), 70's whole BD...this decade by taliban..oocupying almost NWFP....now Balochistan on the Card in US, India, NATO, Isael, UAE, and Iran...only prophet can save you now..He is now in side of India.

In 1974, the relations normalized after democratic government took over. In 1991, Portugal government returned the money Banco Nacional ultramarino took away in 1961 from Goa. Abu Salem was extradicted in 2004 from Portugal and Portugal handed him over to Indian government for his role in the Mumbai bomb blasts in 1993. These 2 incidents shows Portugal has gotten over the 1961 defeat.

Soon Salazar was removed, Portugal went for improving diplomatic relation with India.

Although in 1962,a deal was reached through Brazilian Embassy to swap prisoners of war, as well as people were given preference to chose between Indian or Portuguese citizenship.

Being unlike us asians they have the mental ability to move on.

The colony was good while it lasted, now that its gone.. there is life after the colonies.

In any case colonies were to go someday.

Portuguese still have some grudge that India captured it but they moved on accepting the reality.
