When Osama wasn't such a bad guy.

Are you joking? When the US support for the mujahedeens were all over the US news back in the late 20th century where Soviet agents can watch in public, you are telling the people in the 21st that the US wanted to downplay that relationship?

And please stop with that 'Tim Osman' crap. It never flew.

Have i reported or referred to even one conspiracy theory? , why are you derailing the argument by such BS.

US did downplay the relationship otherwise they should have faced USSR head on but why would you when you can have useful idiots?

We don't know, but here it says and pointer lead somewhere else a source. c'm on all the world knows that it was USA and some Israel were backing up (termed as a secret war, apparently Pakistan, not even Pakistan but Afghan Taliban, In diplomatic world no one is going to accept that)...don't deny...You can safely say taht earlier OBL was our friend as he turned we also turned...There are no permanent friends, even in life-time span we see the sons turning against their father to have powers...history is already evident...

although she (Benazir Bhutto) strongly opposed United States support of Afghan Mujaheddin which she labeled "America's Frankestein" during her first state visit to United States in 1989.

When you brought on a source that have that 'Tim Osman' crap.

No, we did not. But by what do you mean 'downplay'? As in publicity or as in degree of involvement? In publicity, you are wrong. I was active duty during that time and we knew about our involvement in Afghanistan. In degree of involvement, you may have a point because the US learned from the Vietnam War, politically and militarily. If there is enough indigenous resistance, let them fight, and there were more than enough.
