What's new

What's With the Philippine Economy?

If you are completely honest, you don't have one now. We have already gotten defacto control over it. With the completion of the new islands, it's all but over, if not in name.

The question you have to ask, is it better to fight for something that's already lost against an opponent you cannot hope to win, or to do the smart thing and work together, then maybe get something in the future.

That's what we did with Taiwan and Diaoyu and South China Sea, we worked with the US, tabled all our grievances, and hit back only when we could. Now we are back with a vengeance, this would not have been possible had we remained in the the Soviet camp or stayed the way we are, or be proud of being poor and backward instead of facing reality.

As to the other candidates, realistically, if their main goal is to fight China, what can they possibly do that would have any effect or isn't being done now. If they were to do this, how would this improve the Philippine's position in Asia.

Simple it makes the filipinos stronger by have people in place we can monitor our seas meaning we can enjoy our EZZ our fight against china is more protecting our EZZ than an actual conflict which you imperial poster in the forum failed to understand

There is another price the Pinoys are depended on :D

Unfortunately, I would rather fight, but not with guns.

And economic cooperation? What's the point of prosperity if we are losing more territories? That is just like saying it is good to be rich in money while losing bits and bits of my home.

Do I sense genocidal intent here? :cheesy:

Fight with words? Words only carry weight if you have guns.

You are losing your home anyways, the root cause of foreclosures is that you have no money to pay off that mortgage, if you did, you wouldn't have to foreclose. It's not a question of will.

Anyone can say empty words, I can say China destroy America!!!!!!! NOWOWOWOWOWOW!!!!!! Doesn't make it likely.

If you think currently Philippines can do anything other than just annoy China, then I don't know what to tell you. If you accept that premise, why would you want the Philippines to do anything other than to build up strength, even if you cannot match us, you can at least make yourself valuable enough for there to be compromise. One of the best countries to help with that right now, unfortunately for you, is China.

You can say America, but America has proven again and again, it is MJ, it doesn't understand why others can't play like he does. Which is why he and America can never be a great coach for a less talented member.

But hey, that's just one man's opinion, maybe you can save your house having no money, bankers are people too.

Why can't you and your countrymen just accept the fact that not everyone will follow what your government dictates?

What you said about China being THE ONLY country that could help us reeks of arrogance - this implies that we should only be dependent on China and surrender our sovereignty to the CCP in exchange of so-called development and financial support. So what if China is the second richest country in the world now? Does that make other countries poorer and we Filipinos should not invest on countries like Japan? Whether you like it or not, we would rather choose Japan than you. Even if we could not get any direct development support from Japan, bilateral trades and economic relations with them will give us money that can be used for our own development.

See that's the thing about power, it really doesn't matter what the weaker party thinks. If the weaker party is smart, the weaker party can become stronger by latching to the stronger party, learn its tricks, gain it's strength.

You don't HAVE to accept anything, you just have to take it. I take you didn't accept our effective control over the South China Sea, and nor will you accept any of our future moves, but they will happen whether you like it or not. That's really the beauty of power, gives you options and one of them is not giving a crap.

It's not a if or question, you are doing the one whether you like it or not, if you think that's arrogance than it is you who is arrogant. So arrogant that you would dismiss 30+ years of 10% development far a few years of subpar development in a far smaller country like the Philippines. The numbers have no opinions, they are objective.

Another thing you need to consider, by all indication China will become the largest out flowing investment country in the world, by a mile. A symptom of our kind of growth, much like Japan before it and the states before them.

You don't NEED our money to grow, certainly, but that money is going somewhere, and unless you are so sure you will be able to defeat anyone that comes up with our money, expertise, and market opportunities like any number of countries in Africa, Asia and South America, then you got a problem.

Who's really arrogant, we may not like Japan nor America, but those two are our biggest backers during our early years. Apparently you can ignore the second and soon the biggest economy in the world, while all the world wakes up to the export led growth model and seeks our help.

Again, just one man's opinion, who knows, maybe you're right, China is irrelevant.

With the world likely back in recession thanks to Greece, I don't think anybody in Asia is growing more than 6% next year.
