It will be very nice . And important think is that we can have our systems in SCS for very long time which can be used to improve our operational capacity against PLAN . If India and Vietnam could come up with new export variant of Shivalik or Kamorta it can benefit both. Ships will be built in India Veitnam gets their share from the profit , they can get affordable War ships ... its Win Win

May be . But what I mentioned was to build in Indian Ship yard . Like private ship yard or separate line for Vietnam . There are many private ship yards will like to join this project. So you don't have to invest lots of money on creating infrastructure . Which you can do it later when you have good experience in war ship building capabilities . It would be more productive for veitnam.

Yes, it should be no problem for India to use the base at Cam Ranh bay, best base in the SCS.

Great opportunity to train and do surveillance and intelligence gathering on the chinese ships, get their subs acoustic signatures, etc.

We both have a proposal which is nice but I doubet it will get nod from Indian Government if such proposal is sent to them.

I think that would be good, they are certainly going to build some boats for Vietnam, but its not clear what the specs are.



Actually, there was a plan to sell 6 Kamortas to Vietnam, but I don't know what happened to that.

No official source (as usual for Vietnam), just rumors in the Viet military about 1 or 1.5 years ago. Some chinese news sources also repeated that which is very interesting and then nothing more was heard, I guess they changed their plans or the Indian shipyards are too busy, don't know.

So as per wiki. VN has some 7 frigates , 9 Corvettes , 8-9 missile boats , 3 submarines from Russia . So India cannot supply submarines which can be taken care by big brother Russians .

Since you already have 7 frigates and 2 additional ordered , 2-3 destroyers will be of good addition . Instead Shivalik which not so big but packs some serious punch can be the best choice. As new Shivalik will be upgraded from the 1st batch used by Indian Navy . It will give next generation stealth capabilities. Corvettes can be managed with with existing ones and ASW helicopters can do some serious damage to enemy submarines. Shivalik will be a game changer for your Navy.

And by the way how many submarines have u guys ordered from Russia . 3 or 6 ?

New Delhi: India is all set to sell warships to Vietnam - a country locked in territorial with China.

Garden Reach Ship Builders and Engineers or GRSE - a Kolkata-based Defence Public Sector unit - will supply warships to Vietnam. This will be the second export of warships for India. It is already selling a patrol ship - Coast Guard Ship Barracuda - to Mauritius at a cost of Rs 350 crores. (Meet the Barracuda - the First Warship India Will Export)


Besides, it is also in the race to export two light Frigates - about 3500 tons each at a total cost of Rs 2000 crore - to The Philippines.

The forays of the Indian Ship builder in the Indian Ocean and the disputed South China Sea are not mere commercial. The sale has strategic implications as well as the exports will spread Indian footprints across the region. Vietnam, the Philippines and four other countries are locked in a high decibel and international watched territorial dispute with China in the South China Sea. India has oil drilling blocks off the Coast of Vietnam and has ramped up military training including that of Submariners and Sukhoi-30 fighter pilots."The sale of at least four patrol vessels comes as part of the $100 million credit line for military extended to Vietnam by India," Rear Admiral AK Verma (retd) Chairman and Managing Director of GRSE said.

These patrol vessels will be about 35 meters in length, 10 meters broad and will have specialized Aluminum Hull. They will be used to patrol the waters close to the shore. Vietnam needs at least seven more such ships and GRSE is expected to get the order for the rest of the ships as well.For the Philippines order, GRSE is competing with six foreign ship yards - Navantia, Spain, STX, France and Hyundai, Daewoo, and STX from Korea.

"We have been looking out to export ships for about a year and half, however under the Modi government there is more urgency and stress on exports," a senior GRSE officer told NDTV explaining fresh forays of the shipyard to foreign shores.

Vietnam ordered 6 Kilo subs.

Still no more details about the Indian ships for Vietnam, that's all we know also.

I think what works best for VN is corvettes and frigates, no need for large ships at this time and the big equalizer is the Brahmos babe, we really need that mate.

VN has no chance of achieving naval superiority in the SCS, so we need to play defensive, subs mainly and small ships that can sneak undetected, launch a deadly salvo and run.

We need air launched Brahmos A and later Brahmos M.

Buying Indian weapon will be a big mistake for Vietnam. You dont buy weapons from an unproven manufacturer. Indian has heavily import large amount of foreign military products. They are novice when comes to making what is decent product.
