What will Bangladesh look like in 50 years?

ROFL... Global warming

I am fine, was banned for 3 months or so, lost the habit of pdf in the mean time, barely post nowadays. In any case pdf has become hostile for Indians, may soon get banned again! :)

And barely any rain here in Kolkata!! :undecided:

I speak on behalf of most of the Indian's that share your view on this forum!

That's bad. A bit of rain can be a lot relieving in the hot days. Apparently it seems to be raining quite a lot in Bangladesh these days.

3 months is a lot. Did you post **** in a thread?

What is **** :undecided:

I just predicted the fate of China-Pakistan relationship, and about probable ummah love between Pakistani and Uighur mujahideens, they didn't like it! :)

Aye. Closest that have got to 2.1 after falling below are US, UK and France (but now US has fallen again)....largely because of quite pro immigration policies:

Right now focus in BD, India etc must shift in creating quality in the demographic dividend (from the declining fertility rate) rather than speculating too much about overpopulation (because more or less we know which total population range its going to stabilise at).

According to the national institute of statistics,France's fertility rate was 2.00 in 2014 and decreased to 1,96 in 2015 to 1,93 in 2016. The number of births like of deaths is decreasing. The average age for a woman to have her first baby is also increasing : 30,4 years old on average.

Right now,no European countries, not even Ireland have a fertility rate equal or above to the needed replacement level : 2,1 babies per women.

Point was France got its fertility rate up from 1.6 - 1.7 in early 90s to around 2.0 in recent years. I have not seen any other major developed country really do that in recent years (you after all did offer specific govt programs to encourage raising children). Of course France will oscillate somewhat now, whether they seriously go back to 1.7 range and below in sustained fashion remains to be seen.

French people have always made lot of children, helped by generous welfare programs and the fact that we have family policies that, while they are amenable to improvement, have the great advantage of enabling family and full-time work for women to coexist, which isn't really the case in lot of European countries. In addition, the mother are getting older because of studies and then seeking a stable and good situation before having their first baby.

Immigration might have helped too. However, the national institute of demography studies stated that without immigration, there wouldn't be much difference to the fertility rate,it would be at about 1.90

It is really good work done in France.France is one the handful countries in Europe projected to not to loose population up to 2100AD projection. This is rather astonishing, considering the historical legacy of low French birth rate.Low birth rate existed in France since the middle of eighteen century as France undergone enlightenment much earlier than other European countries.Low birth rate had always worried the French establishment starting from the 1870 Franco-Prussian war up to WW2.In those days, German population was growing rapidly and French population was stagnant. It was one of the crucial factor for the low morale of France facing the aggressive Nazi Germany as France lost disproportionately more young men during the ww1.But after ww2, the table has turned completely, now Germany is having very low birth rate and France having higher. At this rate, France will suppress German population by count in the next 50 years.

France was Europe's most populated country in 1789. 28 millions of inhabitants.

Germany's population increased rapidly to overtake France's and by the late XIX century and at the start of the Franco-Prussian war had 41 million inhabitants compared to 37-38 million of France.

Our population more or less "stagnated" during La Belle époque. An period between the end of the Franco-Prussian war and the outbreak of WW1,characterized by optimism, regional peace, economic propsperity and technological, scientifical and cultural innovations.

In 1914,we had about 41 million inhabitants whereas Germany was inhabited by at least 65 million people. 8 million men were mobilized to resist against German army, and the casualties reported to the population were far higher. More than 1 million soldiers killed and other millions injured, disabled etc.
It terribly affected France's demography and the effects of WW1 were still visible at the outbreak of WW2. The conflict terribly affected the mind and people didn't want a remake of it. Especially that most of the conflict was fought in French lands.

Nazi Germany had nearly 70 million inhabitants in 1940 whereas France's was globally at the same level of 1914. (40 millions inhabitants) This tells a lot.

I am not sure though France would overtake Germany first. UK's population is rapidly growing especially due to immigration, they could overtake us very soon.

Britain's population could overtake FRANCE within a decade as migrants looking to start families flock to the UK

  • UK population's rose by 8.8 per 1,000 in 2015/16, reaching 65.3million
  • France's population rose by only 3.7 per 1,000 to reach 66.6 milllion
  • The Eurostat data says 11 EU countries had falling populations

Britain's population could overtake France to become the second biggest country in Europe within a decade, according to new figures.

The UK population's rose by 8.8 per 1,000 in 2015/16 to reach 65.3million, while France’s population rose by only 3.7 to reach 66.6 milllion, according to figures from Eurostat, the EU's official statistics agency.

Net migration to the UK is running at 330,000 a year but the growth is boosted because many of the migrants are of the age when they might start families.

Britain's birth rate is one of the highest in Europe but the population is also ageing and would shrink if it were not for migrants
