What makes India stand behind PM Modi, despite the demonetisation chaos?

rich -> power -> corruption....having said that saying only rich are corrupt is totally false...corruption is in all spheres but corruption at top effects that many people...

It is this leg of transition that is suspicious. People will always try if it is possible. Since power is rest with the government and ultimately given by the people, when people authorize too much power to the government, they also give the government the opportunity to sell and the rich to buy. Therefore, don't blame the rich since they just do what everyone does, which is to try their best to benefit themselves. It is the availability of so much government power that is to be blamed.

Just look at the ease with which sleuths are raiding them. Tax Dept is constrained by capacity, but is surely coming after them. Real game will start in next year.

I think modi can deliver for India, modi has not such case of corruption, he made beautiful gujrat and delivered there, and he made example for others. Modi should keep focus on economy and poverty , instead of making futile effort to isolate Pakistan.

ummmmm....not sure...let's say i have black money and got hold of launderers who arranged few accounts belonging to poor people...I deposited 2.5 L in each gave the launderer 20% or whatever the fee...and got my money back(80%) in installments...this trail of money is gonna look very much same to a genuine man/women who deposit their hard earned cash in bank and then given they are not digitized enough withdraw the same amount in installments....

I strongly believe that this is also one of the reason lines are still long...i mean look at it...almost 12L crore is already back in the system...which means a decent amount of black money has managed to come back...so most likely these zero balance/dormant accounts are on overdrive...the issue still remains how to differentiate b/w a genuine chap and fukcing black money holder....

For me, he is "riding the tiger" not just because of demonetization, but because people expect more such steps to counter corruption and end blackmoney. He just can't stop with Demonetization. But anything that adds to people's misery, will quickly lose him more votes. Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. But then, he can't blame anybody else.

I think the demonetization is turning out to be more about optics than anything substantial and in that regard too, he needs to do something very soon to address the inconvenience. Else he will lose out on optics too, if he hasn't already done so.

This is what I had said all along! The voter will want to see #Demonetization benefiting him personally for him to vote again for Modi in 2 years. Else, they will unceremoniously dump Modi even at the risk of installing Rahul "Uttar Kumar" Gandhi or another family-nominated sycophant a la Mohan Singh.

Money only has purchasing power, not the power of coercion. Of course, it can buy the power of coercion when this type of power is available and with a reachable price tag. It is this activity that is called corruption. When the power of coercion is scarce, the chance that money eventually leads to corruption will also be scarce.

Yup, you can tackle corruption to a great extent by removing the discretionary power of the Government agents. The more ambiguity in rules, the more scope for corruption. The more human interaction in government deals, the more scope for corruption.

But ultimately the fight for corruption can only fought from top to bottom. The dread of seeing a corrupt senior officer being dragged by his balls to jail, can straighten even the most corrupt of his deputies.

You didn't bring china but the Chinese outlook of looking the things which cannot be applied to India or Indians. Chinese look at the communist way of things where power is important and milking money is by-product of the same. But the Indian way works both ways i.e. money and influence is exchangeable (to some extent). Hence my comment that India is different. I have no intents of a fight but a good meaningful conversation but again relevant and meaningful.
