I think he intelligently answered the pertinent parts of the question, without addressing the sensational ones. But he didn't necessarily praise India or the situation of Muslims in it - he painted a clear and mostly true picture of the country.

He is right in saying that our affiliations have more to do with which part of the country we come from and what group of people we have grown up with. Growing up, most of us are pretty open about each other's religion but hardly care about it in day to day dealings.
