What is the Value of a Pakistani Life

Perhaps if the Holy Quran , like the Holy Bible stated "thou shalt not kill" and just stopped there then the issue would be simple. Unfortunately the Holy Quran seems to state "thou shalt not kill a believer" and that is where the problem starts. Who exactly is a believer or unbeliever has now crossed all lines. Performing namaz five times a day, believing that Muhammad was the last Prophet of God, striving towards haj etc no longer qualifies you to be a believer. You could follow all the pillars of Islam and yet remain a pagan or heretic to another Muslim. It all started off decades ago with the believers slaughtering the unbelievers to advance the cause of Islam. Now it has turned 360 degrees to the believers slaughtering the believers

Value of life in Pakistan is ‘NOTHING’. Here Atta is more expensive than a human life. In my humble opinion the main reason is spread of extremist version of Islam sponsored by Salafi/Wahhabi/Al-Qaida followers. I am not postulating but look at very recent events:

An young brainwashed idiot blows up 60 totally innocent mostly Sunni Muslim spectators at Wagah and three different TTP groups claim it, as if it was such an admirable job that each group was clamouring for the accolade!

A poor husband & wife couple was butchered & burnt alive in Punjab simply because somebody allegedly accused them of blasphemy. A dispute among two groups as to which one should be the first to throw dust on graves of their relations in Sheikhupura resulted in 5 deaths! The combatants were close relations and two of the dead were lawyers.

Regret to say that these extremist tendencies are not limited to the uneducated; instead we find that lawyers and retired judges among the people who consider cold blooded killer Mumtaz Qadri a hero. Organizations such as LeJ that boast about killing of Hazras in Quetta & other Shia leaders including eminent Heart Surgeons in Punjab are well funded and supported by the likes of Rana Sana Ullah of PPL-N. Imran Khan has not yet given up supporting his beloved Talban butchers that is why no suicide attack on his Dharna.

Ex JI Amir Munawwar Hasan blatantly called the Taliban leader ‘Shaheed’ and never supported Pak Army action against the extremists. Now you see writings announcing Daa’ish & ISIS on the walls of nearly all the major cities of Pakistan. Perhaps because ISIS beheads all of their prisoners, Pakistani extremist lovers like their inhuman action?

Pakistani media is equally to blame. I heard Hamid Mir at Geo imploring Musharraf to enforce writ of the gov’t but after the event where a bunch of extremists fight Pak Army commandos with guns from inside Lal Masjid , instead on being incarcerated as ‘Enemies of the State’ , Hamid Mir turned those thugs into heroes of Islam.

The problem will not disappear until such time that all Pakistanis put Pakistan State first. There is no room in a civilised State of armed militia other than the State security forces. Any one; civilian, tribal leader or a mullah; who fights State forces with guns, is no longer a civilian but ‘Enemy of the State’ and should be treated as such.

All alleged criminals, even the Blasphemers, can only be tried and punished by the State Courts. All the private Jirgas & lynching mobs are guilty of taking the law in their hands and should be punished. Until such time that all sections of society unite and follow these principles, value of human life will remain “Nothing” in Pakistan.

The good news in all of this is that such blatantly misguided religious mayhem is self-destructing and cannot last long. The only important thing is to limit collateral damage while this implosion occurs.
