The only thing that changed is that I'm not that great at lining things up, so there's a minor difference between the three screen-grabs. The scale is the same no matter where two or more nations are compared.
As long as you could align them at the same latitude. If you drag Russia, China & US to the equator, you would see their size shrink.
The size shrinks (relative to one's magnification level, you can zone in to enlarge them too), but the scale remains the same regardless of where the two nations are on the map.
Here's Norway snapped over the US, over Africa, with the other nations in their default positions, also snapped to the equator:
