Well from the development Perpective isn’t it was the best so far? I am asking a question not arguing…

Ayub Khan created two units. One unit broke away and the provinces of the remaining unit still have huge resentments / differences specially with Punjab over projects like Kala Bagh Dam, Bassha or Munda Dams. CPEC created another issue by which we have witnessed separate demands from the provinces. If you look at the cause, you will find that during the time of one unit, every person from West Pakistan was bound to visit Lahore (being capital of West Pakistan) even for SSC or HSSC board exams because there was only Lahore board in West Pakistan.

Visitors from far-flung less developed areas with deep sense of inferiority complex whenever had to visit Lahore for their official business became prime target of Shuggliaa style Juggats of Lahories like... "Oye Khan Saab, Kia baat karta hay...Tumharay Maghaz (brain) may Watta hay". Such way of dealing created deep divisions from which Pakistan still cannot recover fully.

I remember when Shams ul Haq (Former Chairman of WAPDA) was advocating Kala Bagh Dam on national television, when he said that let us create just a reservoir to store flood water of Indus river which shall be released slowly back when the water shall be required in Autumn...i still cannot forget the answer of one Sindhi nationalist..."Okay so you wanna raise up the underground water level of Punjab with this reservoir, than Punjab must also release their underground water via pipelines in Indus too...!!!!!" You can just imagine the division/barriers we have created. We need an original workable long-term fruitful economic development with the help of social scientists. That's only way to move forward.

I think Presidential Republic is the best since the government is more centralized
We have tried presidential system in the past. It led to rapid development in one part of Pakistan (West Pakistan) at the cost of Bangladesh (East Pakistan). Hence the fall of Dhaka after 1970's one sided elections.
I would go for proportional representation in parliamentary democracy as the best governance system.

I think the presidential system being talked about here is a democratic one, like in the US. Elect a president and then give him executive powers, more than the US president. Otherwise there are too many spoilers in our current system. Even if a party manages to win simple majority in the general elections they still have to wait 3 years to clear out the senate. So 3 out of 5 years are wasted and the cycle continues.

Make president powerful and make his head of military, judiciary, bureaucracy. This is closer to Islamic system as well. Currently we voted for IK but IK has no control over judiciary, and judiciary continues the way it is while IK or the party people voted for gets the blame. Too many hurdles in this current system and almost zero accountability.

What you are talking about is Ayub Khan's dictatorship. That is different. He was not elected by the people.
Presidential system but with Putin or Erdogan style autocracy.

Putin on steroids is what we need. This trash that we have accumulated in bureaucracy, judiciary and military as well in last few decades needs needs a Putin on steroids to clean up. Danda system.

A transparent and accountable democracy. A China/Russia like system would not work in Pakistan because people there are easily corruptible by nature and do not have nationalism at their core. Its this wierd mix of arabic culture mixed with religious jigonism and local culture and its got worse over the years. This mindset is very "dependant" so go for the open and fair democracy and allow the more rational folk to steer.

Pak fauj still runs foreign policy, national security.... and control a lot of industry if I'm not mistaken.

Historically they have been in power overtly for a majority of the time.

IK is widely viewed as being handpicked by them.

Maybe military rule works for Pak. Some in Pakistan call this a hybrid govt. Fauj for important stuff, while elected reps deal with the petty bickering and local issues. Which is fine, democracy isn't for everyone. Major nations like China, Saudi and most of the middle east isn't exactly democratic.

But in our case it's not working

Need to bring pen and paper and distribute powers, Legalize it

Ideally, yes. Ic that is what works, that is what works.

Won't play well with the west though, shame.

Remember, Ind Pak came closest to a solution and peace during Vajpayee and Musharraf's era.

But the good general stabbed India in the back.. sigh.

Trash in = trash out. You need better people, not different systems.
Yeah but if we had better people we could make a better system
You forgot to add the one system which has fundamentally changed dynamics of this planet -- CHINESE HYBRID SOCIALIST/COMMUNIST/CAPITALIST SYSTEM of Government.

This is the system that needs to be imposed in Pakistan for the next 50 years.
I put communist republic. Also, Chinese people are patriotic, hard-working, collectivist and care for their country. So their system wouldn't work here.

Voted One Party

Cannot believe anyone would actually vote for a Presidential Republic. I guess since I live here I know just how dysfunctional it is.

Most people in Pakistan have no clue that political gridlock in DC is even worse than anything in Pakistan.

At least things happen in America because the president has executive power. And if he has a majority in the senate which he normally does until the midterm no one will veto his power.

On a serious note Pakistan badly needs a Presidential system with 5 year term with two term of 10 years limit. This is the only way forward for a unweildy federation that is Pakistan.

The best form of government would be a constitutional republic.

The constitution limits the powers of government and prevents the transition to mob tyranny.
