Well JF17 thunder is obvous choice as BD is not looking for agression its looking to protect its national borders aginst Indians and its a ideal platform as the weapons can arrive from China and Pakistan -

EF , is just a fancy name , its not like BD has 10000 miles territory to cover ...

80 million per plane is abit too much for BD , and when will the deliveries come , 2022?

JF17 my friend JF17 is the plane for today for BD airforce to help protect it against India and that country on its east that no one knows its name

To my knowledge, the only country that BD shares the boder is with India. So, there is no way any other country is going to attack BD since India will guard her.

If India is not a threat to BD then she dosn't need to worry about her defense at all right?

Its not only defending our own border. We have other stakes in world arena. Only few months back Shia extremist attacked Saudi where 2.5 million of our people live. Its probably hard for you to grasp but BD will certainly send troops if KSA is attacked.

based on what some of you guys say bangladesh air force rejected Thunder? If country like egypt is seriously going for JF-17s what is your problem? France has no problems with BAF they'll be happy to sell radar and weapons to BAF..some of you aren't making sense..you did not define your needs and you are on your way buying what F-18?forget it a squadron of F-18 would cost you 1B+
Unless Pakistan gets FC-20 BAF is in no position to talk about J-10 its way to far for you guys to buy or negotiate not before 2015 so for now forget it.
Yes us might offer you F-16s block50/52 bvr capable but expect you won't get weapons of choice that includes bvr weapons..
your last try would be russian su-30 standard version and same problem of maintenance as your mig-29s
this thread has six pages you still haven't explained on what basis JF-17 is reject?when did your govt come into contact with Chinese/Pakistan for any negotiations or discussions?how do you counter your enemy with a squadron of F-18s/Gripen ng with hundreds of them includes su-30/mrca/mirage2000/mig29s? does it make sense say BAF next generation 20 vs atleast 550+

I am not under estimating FC-10 but BD certainly needs some high end fighters be it F-18 or gripen or J-10. Apart from that FC-10 has its purpose and would love to see them in great number in BD sky.

I really see many chances but jf-17 is disliked by BAF and bd ppl we was hostiles at top .so stop dreaming .even they buy they will buy fc-1 not jf-17.any who i see more russian jets better rather then uncle sam.eu very good but expencive.as they like if they wanna buy they are free .our best wishes with them even they buy LCA.

However, helping KSA is your opinion? What is the Govt. stance on this? While I understand your world arena and reputation gaining stuffs, won't the light combat jet developed by your neighbor suit your need?

Because, when you say Gripens its going to cost you $$$$$. Alternatively, the Indian light combat jet or JF 17 would be cost effective and might do the job. Well, JF 17 IF Pakistan is ready...

F18 or su30 or what not those things are beastly, you guys would be digging a hole if you bought those...you wouldnt be able to afford them in big numbers and it will eat up a sizeable chunk of your defense budget for repairs and maintainenace...go for something that suits your requirements, from what i can tell having the most expensive shouldnt be a requirement for you guys

I think, BD should go for 4th generation fighter AC.
BD needs only 60 to 80 AC, Enough to defend

Current fleet
16 Mig -29
40 F-7
18 A-5
15 L-39
Total 89

New Options could be (following are all 4th generation AC)

JF-17, 20 (For Multirole)
Mig - 29 (currently 16 in BD air fleet , buy 14 used), total 30 (For Air superiority)
Mirage III/V (Used from Pak), 20 (For Ground Attack)
Mirage 2K (From UAE), 20 or 20 Mirage ROSE from Pak (For Multirole)

Above are good for BD coz, cheaper, easily accessable and have strong repute in world Air forces.

Dont deal with USA, they only play give n take. And if BD wana buy western then Mirage 2k (UAE, France) or Mirage ROSE(Pak) have close gap with the capabilities of F-16. Plus they are cheaper.


90, 4th generation fighters would be enough for BD. The above plan is also economical, easily accessable..........besides that BD airforce would have mixture of western, Chinees, Pakistani & Russian Crafts & weapons.

I dont think, there is need for BD to move direcly on 4.5th gene without having strong experence on 4th gen jets.


Technically jumping directly to 4,5th generation AC is not valuable. Besdies thar 4.5th gen AC are very expensive then 4th gen....its just like going for Core i3, i5 or i7 processor along OS Win-7 direclty from Pentium (Win XP)........while knowing that dual core, core 2 Duo is much cheaper then Core i3, i5 or i7 and very close in reference of technology wise. (I hope members got ma point)

At the moment most of the strong Airforces still have 4th gene AC's.
If BD buys 4th ge AC, it would be more easier for BD to move directly to 5th gen fighters in early 2020. If they spend huge amount on expensive 4.5th AC then they might get the taste of 5th gen AC in late 2020

I am not very sure about what I am going to write here. But, I think, the BD military people would not like to purchase jets like JF-17 only because its combat capabilities have not yet been proved.

About the US, French or Russian plane options, BD military may be considering less number of planes that have better manueverity and performance. But, planes like F-18 requires pilots with highest mental capacity, who can do quick thinking and can make multiple calculations in a fraction of a second.

So, it may be that this is why our pilots have been sent to the USA for an evaluation by the US airforce authorities.

A fighter Jet with a proven matured russian rd-93 engine.
Radar (French radars are reliable and proven if BD want french option)
Weapons (french again proven and reliable)
Chinese weapons Pakistan has been using them for a long time we know they are proven
Explain what is your criteria to choose and pick?

All true, the hate for Pakistan is as high as was in 1971 in Bangladesh so it will be waste time to tell them to buy any thing from Pakistan. Their Army chief is going to India and can ask their friends for LCA .
