I dont have a strong preference but I'm thinking of buying a Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornet, carrier-capable and double seat version, for office commute.

But I can give you my two cents opinion, although there are members far more qualified to do so.

#1 Lockheed Martin:

Even before Lockheed merged with Martin Marietta, they were putting out groundbreaking jets of the ages. Mind you, I do not share the same view of their Commercial Aircrafts.

And since this is PDF, i'm not going to completely outcast the F-16 Fighting Falcon/Viper because LM basically bought it off General Dynamics - one has to give them credit for taking it to the next step, and then some more.

Below are just some of the credentials of Lockheed Martin - to date.

And I haven't even added the C-5 (Galaxy) or the C-130 (Hercules) to the list...

SR-71 (Black Bird)

F-117 (Nighthawk/Stealth Fighter)

BOEING: Now there is no way in hell would I consider Boeing to be part of this conversation because, to date, they haven't really achieved anything on their own. Everything they have was basically inherited from McDonald Douglas (including the logo/insignia).

C-17 Globemaster III...

...were all designs derived from MD. I will give them credit where its due & that is for the recently awarded contract from the USAF T-X Program to replace their ageing fleet of jet-trainers.

Northrop Grumman: I'm not sure why you even bothered to add them on the list because they haven't made anything since the F-14 (Tomcat).

SAAB: I don't know how to put it, without insulting the Sweds. But, SAAB has been cringing on to the Gripen for way too long. I mean its a great jet. Not gonna take that away from them, but they really need to up their game if they want to compete with the likes of Dassault.

Dassault Aviation: Now they could very well be the closest competition to Lockheed Martin, but still far behind 'cause all they offer is the Rafale at the moment. They've had great success with their Mirages & that should be acknowledged.

MiG (Mikoyan and Gurevich): Not really a fan of Russian equipment, so I guess i'll leave it to the experts to break that down. But, the Vietnam War was an example of what Russian equipment did to the mighty F-4 Phantom II. So, that along with the MiG-29 (now MiG-35)..., they're impressive. How durable they are...well that's debatable.

Sukhoi: Again, i'll leave it to the experts. But I am not a fan (at all).

Notable Mentions: BAE Aerospace, Leonardo, Chengdu & AVIC/Catic.

Sorry, but the B-21 is a proposed concept which is still under development.

Please, don't place the RQ-4 (Global Hawk) is the category of Planes. I could've mentioned Helicopters by Boeing too.

Meh, the E-2 (Hawkeye).

Again, I thought its was strictly Jet related. Not because its my assumption, but purely based on the list provided. I mean, what else do SAAB, Dassualt (other than Corporate Jets), MiG and/or Sukhoi have to offer. I mean, we could then just go ahead & add Refueling Tankers to the list too.

Overall then F-16, Mirage 3/5, Mig 21 take the cake for overall reliability and performance.

You ignore that the TX-7 was designed by SAAB (and Boeing) using SAAB’s Model Based Design approach. This is what allowed the team to develop a new aircraft custom made for the project, and the 3D manufacturing also developed for Gripen allowed them to quote a real aggressive price. The F-35 program is considering a major rewrite of the 20-30 million lines of code to adopt the App based S/W architecture of the Gripen E.
Meanwhile, the Rafale F4 (available 2025?) might be able to compete with the Gripen E EW.

SAAB is of course the best Submarine manufacturer of the lot!

you have to give the Sukoi some credit for the su 35 , and su 25 and the experimental su 47.
