What's new

what is happening to pak rupee will it ever recover ?

When Pakistanis start exporting over a 100b then it might recover. Till then it'll keep going up and up.
Gov is still sleeping in terms of assisting the exporters (manufacturers) who were affected by the whole June Amnesty 2019 drama, Still manufacturers are facing losses, I know for a fact, 6 factories who have been fulfilling orders of big international brands, Who got affected by local costs and in turn the companies are now trying to outsource their work to bangladesh.

.
We have to be more export driven. And export value added stuff. Like locally assembled cars. There's a big market in Central Asia and Iran Iraq etc we can target.

Paise ki kami nahi hai humari awaam ke paas. Bahria Town jaa ke dekhlo. Our people choose to invest in real estate and gold which does nothing for the foreign exchange or they buy dollars which further depletes the forex reserves.

It's the government's job to launch export schemes and encourage people to invest in it.

Thank you for the intelligent explanation and linking the consistent deficit to the weakness of the Rupee. I am just surprised / disappointed that PTI could not reign in imports. It shows gross incompetence specially coming to luxury and non-essential imports.

Imports have gone down. Lot of luxury items. That is why our Current account deficit has gone down a lot. Before this virus, our CAD had gone down to 2.4% of GPD, compared to before 4.8%.

Just outright closing all imports is not the answer. That will just stall the economy. Gov first go rid of luxury items by increasing their taxes. Then gov gave incentives, like tax/duty free for machinery to manufacture green energy product. Slowly gov is implement policy that are more towards reviling local industry. This just takes time. Gov has to balance between starting local industry, and stalling the economy.

A typically Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf supporter:

If, we did this then that.
If, we did that then this.
If, only.
If, but.
But, if.
If, if.
If, if, if.

Two years later, Pakistani external debt increases from $96 billion to $111 billion, GDP shrinks from $313 billion to $287 billion, GDP growth halved, economy decimated, currency devalued, external trade hampered, poverty imposed, stock market devastated, hot money flying out with 13% interest rate, cheeni chori normalised, lost Kashmir, humiliated at OIC, stopped from KL Summit, Corornavirus allowed., free flights for families of all parliamentarians.

Well they are running out of time..Pakistanis are an impatient nation that need quick fixes and always look for jugaars. They think last 4-5 decades of mismanagement since Ayub can be wished away in a mere 2 years. I think PTI will fix all these structural issues and just as the economy would be geared up for better growth 2023 elections will come round and the electorate will bring back khata hai tu lagata bhi hai who again will implement import driven growth and fudged numbers.

'Ineligible and incompetent': Maryam Nawaz bashes her own party
"Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) vice president Maryam Nawaz Friday called her own party’s government ineligible and incompetent.
The PML-N leader tweeted World Bank report stating that Pakistan’s budget lost its credibility, however, Maryam did not realize that the mentioned stats were from PML-N’s tenure."

First time in decades a sitting government has started three dams all together and posters on here were saying 'everything is in cold storage'.

It's Pakistani's own fault that the Sharifs and Bhutto/Zardaris have ruled for decades and our economy lags behind even tiny countries.

They will give this achievement to PMLN or PPP when completed. It's a hopeless nation and no one can change it's fate.

You know it's sad to say we never really recovered from Bhutto's nationalization policies.

His nationalization caused a culture of hiding your money and looking for short term goals. Investors prefer to invest in stupid land schemes or in offshore accounts. No investor is willing to invest in manufacturing projects which will revive our economy.

It doesn't have to recover. Just stop shock devaluation every 3-4 years when Pakistan cannot pay back debt. India rupee in 2004 45, our rs60. Today their is at Rs75 and our rs165.

Ruppee parity to the dollar is not some arbitrary number that the SBP decides on based on how sweet or pheki their chai was that morning.

It is based on your forex reserves. India has more than $500b in forex while ours are $18b. PKR will only stop devaluing if Pakistanis earn more dollars than they use.

Importing luxury and non essential items has little to do with stalling the economy. This slowly business is pathetic and shows incompetence. There is nothing slow about the open import of luxury and non essential items that has been taking place from the day PTI stepped in to date. While the country goes to the drain and the Rupee collapses. Slow brains work slowly unfortunately. And PTI has shown it is even more incompetent, albeit less corrupt, than PPP or PMLN.
