What is being done with Islam……!!!!!

We have to view many religious customs in a contemporary context during the time when these religions were nascent.

The permission to keep four wives, the prohibitions against homosexuality, contraception (Christianity) and self-gratification are all aimed at one thing: more children. In ancient tribal times, the bigger your tribe, the more powerful you were. Hence, tribal customs favored anything that increased their numbers, and frowned upon 'wasteful' activities which could have been better used to make babies instead.

.
Hello there buddy

First of all, marriage itself is a "Sunnah" or "recommendation" for both men and women in Islamic law. It's not an obligation.

Marrying four women is not a 'right' granted to men. It's a rather permission granted to noble, pious and 'just' men with many conditions attached:

-they must treat their wives equally in terms of time, money, etc.
-women *must* consent to such marriages
-must provide them with basic necessities of life on equitable terms

Islamic law allows this practice because its based on a Quranic verse, however at the same time the verse greatly discourages men from practicing polygamy if they're not able to uphold those conditions.

In the Islamic world such marriages account for less than one percent of all marriages should tell you muslim men are not so polygmous and in demand for more wives - mind me one woman is more than a headache

Friend i have one basic question for you regarding the below sentence in Quran

"-they must treat their wives equally in terms of time, money, etc."

How can a man know that he can comfort more than one wife( leave about money) before marrying?

.
not my bible..I'm a Muslim but i have read bible for the purpose of comparative studies.

List me the exact law that says it is illegal for men to force their wives to cover. And do you insist women should not cover their bodies?

Agreed it is illegal for men to beat their wives have a look at the statistics of the world West has astounding number of women beaten by men for various reason. If you were trying to point infact you are pointing at Muslims beating women your pathetically wrong because of "some people" you cannot point out at the whole community or "Islam and Muslims"

Again you're trying to point out at Muslims and Islam..and patheticlly your wrong again the sexual assault on wives is in the west according to the western statistics just google. Suggest you to come back to the subject do not deviate.

I meant the quaren how ever u spell it. What i said was women should have the choice of weather they cover up or not. In alot of muslim countries the women ARE forced to cover up.

As for sexual assaults etc. We are not talking about normal sexual assaults, we are talking about sexual assaults that are justified by a religion. In saudi arabia if a wife refuses sex with her husband she can be stoned to death, so what happens? she has sex with him again her will. In my country a muslim preacher (don't know what you call them) was arrested for insighting violence when infront of a packed crowed he hold all his followers that it was ok to beat your wife if she refuses to have sex with you.

Actually Islam is the first and last religion that gave women equal status to men and also gave them political rights and freedoms to participate in politics and do business with an entrepreneurial spirit - women may lead businesses and may lead their constuents in public. Also it's the first religion to free women from historical systematic domesticated slavery - islamic law doesn't make it obligatory for women to do traditional child-rearing and housework, rather those actions are considered charitable. Having said this, with rights come responsibilities, and Islamic law greatly emphasizes both.

Wrong. In Saudi arabia women are not allowed to drive a car without there brother or father present, in saudi arabia you can be stoned to death for refusing to have sex with your husband. In the taliban controlled afghanastan, women were not allowed to go to school, have a job, they were pretty much not allowed to do anything.

All societies have dress codes and the requirements of what to cover and what not to differ greatly across the world and are based on Public Decency laws.

Now who decides what women or men should cover? and how much they must cover? Well these rules fall under public decency laws. For ex, in some ancient African tribal culture it's completely normal for women to show breasts and walk around in public, and that is based on their ancient tribal codes. Women walking around showing breasts in Canada or the US is considered "indecent" and are usually picked up by the police and sent to prison. we call it a ''feminist revolt''. Because Public decency laws in the west criminalizes revealing breasts or private parts/genitals in public.

In Canada and the US, decency laws require men and women to cover their private parts. Now what are those laws based on? the Bible? Secularism? or What? Well! At the end of the day, they're all rulings derived from laws, regardless of what they're based on, they all tend to provide a guideline so as to meantime public order and peace.

Similarly, Islamic law also has a section on Public decency laws. The Quran requires both women AND men to cover. But requirements differ due to inherent physical and psychological differences in men and women. Men are required to cover "navel to knees" and women from "head to ankles", with face, hands and feet are allowed to be exposed in public. Islamic law derives rulings from the Quranic verses, such as this that commands women to cover:

The surah 24:30-31 say:[6]
“ And say to the believing women that they cast down their looks and guard their private parts and do not display their ornaments except what appears thereof, and let them wear their head-coverings over their bosoms, and not display their ornaments except to their husbands or their fathers, or the fathers of their husbands, or their sons, or the sons of their husbands, or their brothers, or their brothers' sons, or their sisters' sons, or their women, or those whom their right hands possess, or the male servants not having need (of women), or the children who have not attained knowledge of what is hidden of women; and let them not strike their feet so that what they hide of their ornaments may be known; [...] (Qur'an 24:31)

Hope this helps :D

Yes all countries have public decency laws, BUT most countries do not have religious laws. Most countries give you the right to choose what you wear. A law against not wearing enough clothes and not covering up is disgusting, and so out dated. Maybe that would have been acceptabled in the 15th century but noti n the 21st century. Religion should be kept separate from law and government.

I have alot of muslim friends and they find it ridiculous that women are forced to cover up.

In closing, islam in some countries is used to violate human rights, that is fact.

Yep google it, countless stories and not only in Saudi arabi. Somalia is the worst country.

Maybe your media doesnt show these kinds of things because it can be seen as "going against your religion"?

People in the west are well aware of the human rights abuses.

lol dude you are absolutely out of your mind..There is no law or nothing at all in Saudi Arab to stone a wife if she doesn't want to share bed with her husband. In number of Muslim countries women are forced to cover their bodies yes you are right almost all of the Muslims countries women cover up their bodies but "not forced" i guess FOX and CNN" is all on your mind. You are continuously pointing at Islam without taking its name and i assure you all of of on this thread exactly know who you are referring to..There is absolutely no sexual assault justified by Islam i can give you link to complete set of hadiths and the Quran read it through you won't find a single line.

In your country i am sure it must have been a front page news could you please provide us with that news if not no one will believe you on this account that there was a religious preacher calling to beat one's wife if she refuses to have sex.

And my request take that sexual thoughts out of your mind of "Wife and Sex" that is circling in your mind. Saudi Arab has this law (women can't drive) and i find perfectly alright beside there are smooth clean buses women can ride in those as well don't ask me my mother has spent 4 years there so i know better than you. Having talked of Islamic restrictions my mother has drove cars for last 22 years. Again there is no law and you don't have a clue neither do you have any proof that Saudi Arab has a law forcing woman to have sex or get stoned to death. In Afghanistan the Talibans paid those women promptly every month without women working and going out. And i do agree with you about the schooling part. But you taking everything out of context you cannot blame Islam and all the Muslims for that other wise i can list terrible things from Christians side and i don't want to make this thread VS thread. Well what do ya know if you disagree with a law that promotes decency and save-guarding of women start withf with your home and i believe you won't be needing any dress too cuz its disgusting law to wear dress right? Apologies i am talking metaphorically. Islam has already set prescribed rules they have to be followed and cannot be altered with time as in Christianity therefore accept it or reject it no forcing.

I don't watch fox or cnn. Why are you comparing islam to christanity acting as if this is just some personal attack on your religion. This discussion is on the mis use of the islam religion. I personally do not follow any religion.

Sure let me find the links.

Also the head of islam in australia said that "all girls who do not cover are up are like bits of uncovered meat, and deserve to be raped" he made those comments after a girl was gang raped by a pack of muslim men"

http://bargainprofessor.wordpress.com/2006/10/26/muslim-cleric-women-are-like-uncovered-meat/
http://blogcritics.org/culture/article/muslim-clerics-uncovered-meat-remarks-spark/
He then said to our media "I have been taken out of context" he then flew to egypt and went on tv laughing at the fact that he got away with his comments, he didn't know australian authorities were watching.

Here is a link to another story of human rights abuse in saudi arabia against women.
http://infidelsunite.typepad.com/co...audi-princess-diary-and-stoning-to-death.html

She refused to marry a husband that was arraneged for her, so she was stoned to death,

I am glad girls in my country do not cover them selfs, it's so degrading. When muslim women walk around here with head scarfs on, they get the most stares

.
I spare you on benefit of doubts although each and every post of your point and mocks Islam and Muslims and "Wife and Sex" circles around your mind, you don't seem to understand with all the others and I trying to make you understand yet you go back to step one! o yeah you don't watch fox and cnn but you watch alot of stuff about Saudi Arab lol. Ofcouse to make you understand i have to bring christianity under scrutiny for your purpose of understanding if i start listing things from bible but i can't this is not the right place for it. How the bible degrades woman i hope you have copy of king james international version atleast read it you'll know it even after making many charges to it it remains a point of concern to be read by children. While i'm typing it i came across the last lines you wrote you don't follow any religion so my question is are you an atheist? if so than you've no set of laws and rules a bit to follow to distinguish what is right and what is wrong.

This is what I understand about Pakistan.
Every man has the right to beat his wife, daughter or sister. Every year, 5,000 women die from domestic violence. Thousands are badly injured, many become disabled. According to a survey conducted by some NGOs and DAWN (the leading English-language newspaper in Pakistan), nearly 90% of women face domestic violence. Generally, violence against women is increasing, but domestic violence has significantly risen over the last decades.

Last year, 857 women were brought to hospitals being having partly or completely burnt by acid attacks – and these are just the official figures. A lot of women get acid thrown on their faces or bodies for different reasons. Many women lose their eyes, ears and get their faces disfigured as a result of these violent attacks.

It is generally accepted that men are allowed to beat their wives or daughters because Islam gave them the right to do that. These ideas are reinforced by the sermons of the Mullahs who preach them regularly. Victims of domestic violence have no way of getting legal protection. This is because the police are never prepared to consider domestic violence as a crime and they always refuse to register cases on this issue. Normally, the police put pressure on the victims to force them to make a compromise with their families.

In the USA this is what I know,,,if there is a fight between a man an women and the police are called by the people in the fight or the neighbors,, one of them goes to jail,,period..usually the man but not allways..some times the women is the agressor...I know of a case lately where a women called the police on a boyfriend, he was jailed, she got a restraining order where he could not even go to his own house and in the mean time she sold every thing he owned....he managed to get his home back when she was later arrested twice and jailed for beating up her brother...

No problem::: (Koran 4:34) ...As to those women on whose part ye fear disloyalty and ill-conduct, admonish them, refuse to share their beds and BEAT THEM

There is every thing in every society,,,that does not make it right ,, that does not mean there is not more in some societys then others..it does seem to be acceptable for a man to punish his wife in Pakistan and a number of Islamic Countries... its not considered acceptable in most western countries.

Seadog1 type YOUTUBE.COM than spend all day watching domestic violence in the west videos.

USA Has One of the Highest Rates of Rape
United States of America is supposed to be one of the most advanced countries of the world. It also has one of the highest rates of rape in any country in the world. According to a FBI report, in the year "1990", every day on an average 1756 cases of rape were committed in U.S.A alone(so seadog1 so tell me if police was available at that time or neighbor called police sexual assault is part of domestic violence). Later another report said that on an average everyday 1900 cases of rapes are committed in USA. The year was not mentioned. May be it was 1992 or 1993. May be the Americans got ‘bolder’ in the following years. Now compare it to 2009 add 5% more it is still the highest rate.
MURDER
In 2005, 1,181 women were murdered by an intimate partner. That's an average of three women every day. Of all the women murdered in the U.S., about one-third were killed by an intimate partner.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE (Intimate Partner Violence or Battering)
Domestic violence can be defined as a pattern of abusive behavior in any relationship that is used by one partner to gain or maintain power and control over an intimate partner. According to the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, women experience about 4.8 million intimate partner-related physical assaults and rapes every year. Less than 20 percent of battered women sought medical treatment following an injury.

SEXUAL VIOLENCE
According to the National Crime Victimization Survey, which includes crimes that were not reported to the police, 232,960 women in the U.S. were raped or sexually assaulted in 2006. That's more than 600 women every day. A significant number of crimes are never even reported for reasons that include the victim's feeling that nothing can/will be done and the personal nature of the incident.
THE TARGETS
Young women, low-income women and some minorities are disproportionately victims of domestic violence and rape. Women ages 20-24 are at greatest risk of nonfatal domestic violence, and women age 24 and under suffer from the highest rates of rape. The Justice Department estimates that one in five women will experience rape or attempted rape during their college years, and that less than five percent of these rapes will be reported. Income is also a factor: the poorer the household, the higher the rate of domestic violence -- with women in the lowest income category experiencing more than six times the rate of nonfatal intimate partner violence as compared to women in the highest income category. When we consider race, we see that African-American women face higher rates of domestic violence than white women, and American-Indian women are victimized at a rate more than double that of women of other races.
