Hello guys....how are you?? hope u r all fine....

I am new here.... My name is Faiez and 16 yrs old......

Am a fan of guns and like to learn more about guns and weapons etc.....

I dont own any weapon other than kitchen knife becuz I cant get license....

So i was just wondering if what the difference is between all these types of handguns?? like which one is better and how much do these cost ( I do not intend to buy any thing illegally or kill anyone....just want to know how much armies spend )......

And also tell me some details about the "1911" pistols? And why are they called the most reliable guns in the world?

Tell me what makes a gun more reliable , what factors determine the accuracy , range ,bullet's velocity and most of all , the rate of fire ??

And while talking calibers like 9mm , .45acp etc etc..., what does the person exactly mean?? like is it length of the projectile only or is it the whole bullet?? Or is it the bullet diameter??

Tell me what makes a gun stable and accurate at full auto??
What are the key aspects of a gun that jams less and needs lesser maintainance ( oiling / cleaning etc ) ??
I remember my friend once used desi ghee instead of the lubricating oil on his father's M16....Tell me what was wrong in that?

Experts please answer these questions and dont tell me to look at wikipedia pages ( already gone through most of them ).......

Thanx in advance.....

OK, I'm no expert in this field so I'll just run over the basics. When talking about pistol calibers, the standard NATO round is 9mm. 9mm is basically the diameter of the bullet, not the casing. I believe the term CALIBER refers to the mass of the grains in a round. I have no idea what the metric is in measuring the round, I believe it's in grams but I have no clue. .45 ACP round is a round fitted for large pistols, also called the "45 caliber," this may or may not mean that it has 45g worth of grains for propelling the bullet but I can't confirm on this. Standard pistol cartridges come in 9mm, 40 caliber, 45 caliber and 50 caliber sizes. Obviously, the larger the round, the more the stopping power however, the larger the bullet, the greater the recoil(Backwards force) because of the extra force required to propel the bullet to around the same velocity as the larger bullet's small cousins. However, the larger the round, the more inertia it has(Resistivity to the change of its motion) thereby reducing the effects of wind, external forces etc. Reliability refers to the number of defects the gun has while in service etc. How prone it is to jam, corrosion etc. For reliable weapons systems, I suggest you take a look at the offerings from HK arms, such as the modern G36 family, MP5, MP7 and its great pistol range, such as the USP family not to mention the SEALS' best friend, the HK MK23 .45 pistol. Moving onto rifles, their cartridges feature the "Spitzer" style bullets, or Pointy Nosed rounds. Such rounds are longer, packing more explosive grains for bullet propulsion, all the while being thinner than pistol rounds in diameter for greater penetration as the less the area, the more pressure you exert on a surface. Hence, a standard rifle, take the M16 eg, can pull off 200-300m while your average pistol can only do ~50m. Talking about accuracy, the less the recoil from the gun you have, the more control you have, and obviously, the more accuracy you gain. That's why the standard NATO rifle round is the 5.56x45mm. 5.56mm diameter by 45mm in length of the BULLET+CASING. the 7.62x51mm, while being bigger and hence having stopping power, is much more massive and hence, you end up with hard to control recoil in auto fire. Thus, 7.62's are designated for marksmen purposes, AKA light snipers, or battle rifles, for medium to long range. Finally, as requested by you, the M1911 is a pistol which has its roots started in the year 1911, having served in WWI, and still being used by US armed forces today for its reliability, albeit the system is quite outdated and a few upgraded variants have come out, namely the M1911A1. The 1911 is a .45 ACP round, with quite a bit of stopping power. One thing to note, although the round nosed bullet shapes of pistol rounds are used by default across the world, rifle style spitzer nosed rounds are becoming adopted by forces recently, for their increased penetration of body armor, which is exponentially being used today by terrorist. Hit up "HK UCP" or the FN Five-seveN to find out more detail. Oh yes, before I forget, SMG's, or sub-machine guns, are just oversized pistols firing pistol rounds in automatic mode. Because Assault rifles can become quite cumbersome to maneuver around with in CQB(Close quarter battle) ranges, SMG's, being less of a burden carry around, replaces rifles since they too can do auto fire albeit losing the power of the rifle since SMG's use pistol rounds. E.g. IMFAMOUS MP5, P90, UMP, UZI etc etc. Good luck!

WOW!!! Thank you to both of you for some really good information.......

@ Lockheed : You forgot one more thing......RPM of a full-auto gun. What are the factors that determine it??

@ Lockheed : You forgot one more thing......RPM of a full-auto gun. What are the factors that determine it??

RPM is determined by the mechanism of the rifle, or firearm. Since each weapons system has a different operating system to the others, it's hard to generalize what really determines the cyclic rate of a rifle. However, generally, when we associate guns with cyclic rates, we're talking about how fast the weapon "cycles" (loads, locks, fires, unlocks, ejects). That is, how fast the recoil of the gun can snap back, eject the used casing/shell, and load in a fresh round, repeating this pattern. Then again, this is all determined by the functions of different mechanical parts of different guns, which are not identical on every rifle you find. Thus, it's hard for me to explain what exactly determines the RPM. I'm not sure if this is correct or not, but have you ever wondered why the Browning M2 .50 cal fires so slowly? Well, simply because the round is HUGE. Hence, the recoil caused is massive too, therefore, it takes longer for the mechanism to lock back, and snap back in to load a fresh round, where standard rifles, with less recoil, fires at a higher RPM when compared with heavy machine guns.

Young man...and I say that in a nice way...forget about semi-automagic weapons. Unless you are preparing yourself for a profession that will involve firearms, I suggest -- forget about semi-automagic weapons -- for now. And I say that as a US military veteran who carried an M-4, currently as a civilian owning firearms and is licensed to carry a pistol -- concealed.

If you wish to learn about using firearms, NOTHING in the world is superior to a REVOLVER in familiarization and training of firearms. FORGET ABOUT SEMI-AUTOMAGIC PISTOLS. Semis will only complicate an already complex issue. A revolver require the absence of half the human brain to screw it up, in firing and maintenance. In other words, if you posses both brain hemispheres, you would learn quicker, more thorough and with greater confidence regarding firearms with a revolver than you would with anything else. Below the revolver is the air powered BB gun and you can take that avenue if you wish.

The first thing you will quickly learn about firearms is to handle the recoil. Failure to control your mental and physical responses about recoil with a revolver and you are effectively useless with firearms in general. Next is to learn to be mentally comfortable with a tool that is PURPOSELY designed to harm living organisms. You can hurt people with a kitchen knife as well as prepare food for them. You can hurt people with a cricket bat as well as entertain them. But a gun's main usage is to harm people and animals by crippling them in some ways, even to kill. Every tool mankind make has a primary purpose. I can use my pistol as a hammer if I wish, but its main purpose is to hurt a body.

I grew up with the .38 caliber revolver. Then I learned how to use a shotgun -- 12 gauge. Then I entered military service. For home defense, I trained and gave my G/F a snub nose .38 caliber revolver. Like this one => Smith & Wesson Model 10 Snubnose

If there is a hostile encounter in a home environment, %99.999 of the time the encounter will take place at distances of a few meters or less. Very often -- less. I told my G/F that if the intruder is not down, disabled or dead, after six rounds from her revolver, it would not matter if she can fire off the seventh shot from a semi. More likely she would not be able to fire off that seventh shot. She would be dead. A revolver require the user to only orient towards the target and squeeze the trigger. Simplest and least physically demanding in a highly stressful situation when your life is in peril. The revolver is also far less prone to jam unless it is horribly neglected and maintained. The .38 caliber is among the best compromises between 'knock down' power for the target and recoil handling for the user. Critical in that same stressful situation where your life is in peril.

So do yourself a favor, if you are determined to be familiar with firearms, and find someone with a revolver, pay for your own ammunition, and spend an afternoon at the range. The most important thing about firearms is user confidence, not the weapon itself.

very very good information , gambit.........

Looks at post with disgust:sick::sick: Alright, look, revolvers require greater skill, concentration while being very risky. You screw up a shot, miss whatever, you're screwed. Whereas if I have, say a Glock, I have a much greater chance at hitting the opponent should my first few shots miss, without the need to re-adjust the gun for the next round because of the enormous recoil felt from the Magnum round.

I must admit, that revolvers have greater stopping power, are meant for pros but that's about it. Their usefulness does go beyond the shooting range or the hunting ground.

If I were in a shootout situation, I'd trust my life with a .45, favorably the USP, 1911 or P220/P226 for that matter, not a blimmin' bling bling hand canon, because they only belong in one place-Video Games(Deagle cough cough).

Just my 2 cents, not written to offend anyone.

^^ He didnt say the revolver was better or something....He only stated out that if I wanna know about guns, I should start wid a revolver so I get the feel of what recoil really is all about and cuz its very very simple and basic.....so that I know how guns work and all that ......

OK, apologize to Gambit then, I was under the impression that his post was about the superiority of revolvers, when he said forget semis...Anyways, As for that AK video, I don't know of any AK's which jam every 5 rounds. Also, AK is a very generalized term, are you talking about the original AK, AKM or the Chinese type? Nearly all developing nations use AK's with the majority producing their own variants. Hence, quality varies greatly among variants. BTW, thanks for reminding me about the "Dumb Slu-t firing Desert Eagle" video.(Original name of video). Tells you about .50's and Counter Strike...
