Lockheed Martin offers the F-21 fighter jet to India

During AeroIndia show in Bengalore, Lockheed-Martin revealed on February 20, 2019, the new name of its contender competing to become the new fighter jet of the Indian Air Force: the F-21.

While the name might be reminiscent of the F-22 Raptor, also manufactured by Lockheed Martin, the F-21 is in fact an F-16V "Viper" adapted to the needs of the Indian Air Force.

To do so, the F-21 is fitted with a Ground Collision Avoidance System (GCAS), a retractable flight refueling boom, a "Sniper" targeting pod, and an Active Electronically Scanned Array AN/APG-83 radar provided by Northrop-Grumman, derived from the two radars that already equip the F-22 and the F-35.

And the American manufacturer insists heavily on the commonality between the F-21 and the two stealth fighters in its catalogue. “The F-21 has common components and learning from Lockheed Martin’s 5th Generation F-22 and F-35 and will share a common supply chain on a variety of components” says the manufacturer reported by Reuters. It goes as far as to name its candidate “India's Pathway to F-35”.

This tender favors "make in India" proposal, with technology transfers and the use of companies in the Indian aviation sector. Dassault Aviation has been allied with Reliance since the previous tender (MMRCA) which saw 36 Rafale being ordered, while Boeing relies on Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and Mahindra Defense Systems. As for Lockheed Martin, it promised that through Tata Advanced Systems, it would build F-21 assembly lines in India which would create "thousands of jobs" for Indian workers and support "hundreds of new jobs" for American engineers. Hopefully for Lockheed, this will please both the “Made in India” and the “America First” campaigns.

F-21 aka F-16E can take JF-17 Block 3 !

I dont know what indian planners are thinking ... Indian inventory:

Rafale
su30 MKI
Mig 29
Mig 27
Tejas
Mirages
Jaguar
Mig 21

Now they are still looking for atleast three further type of aircrafts that needs to be different from above

5th generation platform
naval aircraft
Mid-weight aircraft

This is insane ... Only Mig 21 are for immediate retirement rest will stay atleast for a decade (as jaguar are being upgraded)

We have operated Vipers for decades, for them to also start using Vipers would be hilariously silly since we know these machines better than they do.

It's also good for us that they're spending so much money and time on acquiring new 4th gen aircraft, instead of 5th gen aircraft.

Inducting one type of weapons system is as laborious as it is; getting 2 or more is plain suicide; especially considering they'll have to reduce the active inventory of the fleet throughout the induction process (if they're using existing manpower), which can take as long as 5 years or more.

Yar baaton pay koi paisay lagtay hin... what's new in it? India is interested almost every defense product offered. There is no need to pay any attention to their rubbish acquisition claims. Don't we all know about what happen to mother of all the deals?

Jft BLK iiis can deal with it in conjunction with
J10c.

Tailor a J10 maybe. But it might be better to have some J31/FC31~ to keep things balanced.

Fact of the matter will remain
That how many air-craft IAF can maintain
To be operational.
Rafale Deal already cancelled.
Tejas is ...... you know
& Irony is for their so called surgical strikes they still use Flying Coffins aka Mig's
More deals by them to make purchases More commission is actual plundering in their defense budget.

They will make India buy something from USA.
The only chance India has to skip this situation is to cancel all procurement and make peace with Pakistan.

Indian establishment and western media is toeing the same line that it was F16 which shot down the IAF jets. No mention at all of the JF17s. Its a sales pitch for f16 from within India and west.

India should consider the 'end-user agreement' clause...

Pakistan will most certainly question the US on the sale, if that clause is not tagged on the sale.
