The chinese are getting cockier than the yanks these days...

India has survived only because of democracy. If democracy was not there then the country would have broken apart into several smaller territories. We are the second fastest growing economy in the world only because of democracy.Obviously there are several problems that must be addressed and it is going to take time. But we are not like China where forests and other vegetations are ruthlessly cleared to establish industries. We are a country where people's rights are respected. We are a country where everyone has a say.The GOI did not allow Vedanta to start mining operations in the nyamgiri ranges just because the local tribes were opposing it.The government created several problems for the new airport at Mumbai because it was damaging the environment. The GOI did not allow POSCO to set up it's 12 billion dollars steel project because locals were opposing it.All these are the characteristics of a democracy.Very few Chinese people will ever understand the real beauty of democracy because they are content with what they have under the communist rule. You guys may have all the things that you wanted , but you guys don't have one thing that matters the most i.e freedom .What is the point of having a 36" Sony bravia when your government cuts out the network when anything anti China is being shown?

democracy gives us the freedom to do what we want.. whether we want to be poor, middleclass or rich.. it's our choice.
By the way we can have any number of kids we want in democracy!! do they have that freedom in communist China??

Democracy allows people to do what they want to do ? Then why is Roy being charge for speaking the truth about Kashmir ????

no body is stopping roy to speak, opposition also have a right to oppose.this is happening.;);)

it's not swept under the carpet here. chinese media reports alot of negative news about itself. see the "China negative news" thread for alot of examples. the difference between india and china: when corrupt officials get caught in china, they're given jail terms. when corrupt officials get caught in india, they're given reelection.

My friend.. i do not have a issue discussing the merits & demirits of a political system. But I do have a problem when some one tries to present a thread as a debating issue, when the motive is anything other than that. I know there is advantages & disadvantages in any system. No administrative system is 100% full proof. our leaders thought democracy is the way to go forward, same way your leaders chose communism as the way to go. It's the choice of a nation & no one should impose one's preference on other.
democracy may be slow in yielding the desired results, but it is a kind of system where it rectifies the flaws within the system when you give a chance to evolve itself.
just to give you an example.. do you think a act like RTI would have worked 20 odd years ago?? no way.. but now its a part of our system. Credit does not go to the leaders for bringing it. credit goes to the system where it accomodates these kind of laws. corruption was there before as well. In the past it used to be swept under the carpet. Now you can not. You know why?? democracy has given the tools to the public to expose it!!

India is laying charge against her and that's called anti-freedom-of-speech.

officially India never said that our system is better than others.... chinese members do not confuse with the saying of americans to Indians..

you might have remembered in last few days when Obama was in India urged to set up democracy in Myanmar, the very next day Indian officials hold press conference to announce not to change its policy on myanmar...

we have never suggested any country to have our model to rule the country..

but if any country itself announces to go for democracy, we just welcomed it...... you can take any example from nepal to bhutan to arabian countries

Zhong guo is a good name. We should get Lao wai to use it as well.

A problem about Zhong Guo is that in Modern Spanish and probably Portugues as well, a word with the similar pronunciation means something shaky, etc. I like Zhong Hua better.

What has democracy given India?? A lot of western Ashirward and still lagging behind much younger countries...

Comments from a Pakistani in above manner on this topic is really ironic, ain't it?

And I believe American blessing were reserved for Pakistan, not India, at least till end of last century. I wonder what Pakistan has has achieved with China's and American blessing in last 60+ years...

really, somebozo?? You should have known better then blinded by utter disrespect towards India. Fair men knows how to respect their enemies too when it's due.

No comments to the chinese friends though. My policy is I don't comment on your communism (socialism?) blah blah, would appreciate if you don't comment on our democracy. It's like two religion. You believe in one, I believe in another. We as a grown up nation should learn to respect each other's beliefs.

Well its true whatever India acheived is due to is democracy, but this is also true that Indian polititions are not like Pakistani ones, Pakistan got theives & murderers & uneducated anghoota chaap corrupt polititions who only are best for dividing the entire nation. One can see that except Liaqat Ali Khan & ZA Bhutto, its only military rulers who developed Pakistan. The best example of democracy failure is just compare a Pakistan 4 years back from todays Pakistan. But there is some hope for Pakistanis from PTI(Imran Khan) or AML(Musharraf)as 2013 elections are coming, hope people will open eyes & not support nawaz or zardari etc, MQM is good too but many people hate them so best option is PTI or AML.
