I don't see anything under construction. Just some talk and interviews with some bureaucrats. Where are the construction sites? What are the deadlines?

Storm drains have been around for thousands of years. How are they a feature of a smart city?

Ok the storm drains have been there for thousands of years. Did it save chennai when there was floods? Nope.
These drains are designed to take water to the nearby reservoirs. Currently its covered in one part of the city. All these will be interconnected.


Smart not always means Tech.

Here the city is interconnected. Drains , CCTV traffic violators will be sent notices/bills directly to houses. Fibre connectivity.(80% of chennai and 50 % of Coimbatore is fibre connected) with average speeds upto 50mbps and max speeds upto 1Gbps.

No, but Smart in Smart Cities means tech everywhere else in the world, but in India it means basic things such as sewage treatment and trash bins. Why is that?

So far, I have heard only claims and noises. Does anyone have actual photos or videos to prove that things are being built on the ground?

Or is Modi's 100 Smart Cities just another pipe dream like Manmohan Singh's promise that Mumbai would surpass Shanghai by 2009?

Come on.... Really? While I havent been to Coimbatore recently, Chennai is a pure sh!t. Smart cities still have to executed on the aegis of corrupt admk government and centre hasnt released much money for the lack of local body elections.

When you accommodate more than 7 Million people on a single city which can hold only 3M,what options were left apart from building apartments on top of lakes, not upgrading drains, Chennai although a good city it's in a sorry state and will be in that for some time in future. I know we are not there yet but he is asking for progress I was telling him about the progress that was made.

Coimbatore is a different mix tbh :p

Because you need a stronger foundation to build better cities. Smart in Smart Cities means interconnected interoperable. There are many factors and one of them is proper rain water harvesting and sewage.

Well you clearly omitted what I said about fibre connectivity coverage and speed where private and public ISP's are encouraged to ditch the old cabling and switch to Fibre. Does this also not come as part of the Smart City?

Because what you said was just more noise. ISPs are encouraged to do this and that. Companies are advised to do this and that. The government tabled this and that. Ministers proposed this and that. Modi envisions this and that. By 2020, India will be this and that. It's all fantasy, all make-believe.

India has been making empty promises and idle boasts the day it went independent, so Modi's smart city illusion doesn't come as a surprise, and neither does the fact that many Indians are gullible enough to believe him because, after all, India is a 'democracy' for a reason.
