i was surprised it's a Religious Affairs Ministry thing and not a City Corp one.

the irony is the people are not swayed by the content of those writings, but out of respect that Arabic is a language of Quran and our last Prophet (S). some people (assuming they were not actors) were even assuming it might be a Quranic verse, although there was nothing holy about it. it shows how narrow a context Arabic script has been relegated to in our society just because of our meekness/stupidity and ignorance. it's sad because our society and culture was built on the Persian-Arabic script through Farsi (as our official formal language), Urdu and some Bengali.

by the way Arabic should be made compulsory in school in its entirety-not just reading/recitation

Jamati or not...compulsory learning of Arabic in schools...why?? Why should I pay for it...those who want to learn religion can do it by themselves from their family...government should not be making Arabic or any other language other than Bangla and English compulsory...

Because English is the Global Lingua Franca....it is necessary...if Arabic,Persian or Russian were to become the Global Lingua Franca then I would be happy to make that mandatory instead of English!

Lingua Franca aren't english words then why not using 'English Ideoms' to express the zest of UR saying? Oh! I see, UR endeavor is establishing Lingua Franca as RAZAKAR's alike. I.E. deceiving audience by Unknown/Foreign word. BTW, does anyone born with English or it gets enforced/thurst upon him/her? On a separate note, Arabic happened to be chosen language of Almighty as per Islam since QUORAN had been revealed by it. So, which one should have more weight; Almighty's or Envador/English's one?

Clearly u have a lacking in understanding of how language works...and how foreign words and idioms are assimilated into languages...Almighty spoke Hebrew for a long time too....and majority of the population of the planet doesn't actually believe in the almighty you believe in....so do not just argue for arguments sake...you will just make a fool out of yourself.

Lingua Franca is the term referring to a language that is used as a common language between speakers who have different native languages. English Idoms refers to something else. If you didn't know what it meant, why didn't you just look it up?

So, when Sheikh Mujib abolished English as a medium of Instruction after 1971, did he do a favor for Bangladeshi's? Shouldn't secular Mujib badi's follow his example, why this sudden love for English? Please study in Bangla medium only, no need for any English as a medium of instruction. Mujib's issue with English is more of a thing of Bengali Nationalism. Although it's admirable, he did take go overboard as we can see here. Ironic, he spoke great English.
