we are moving to more efficient cars every year which is great.
I don't think we take oil for graniteanymore, and are turned off by large gas guzzling vehicles like SUVs

Ya, i know of this.
Problem lies in the costs of setting up the new infrastructure, so if a whole apartment building decides to go optic internet, it is much more feasible, than it is to set it up for a single house or two.

Gas and oil is their only mayor income. If the price drops below 80$ a barrel, then russia gets into existential trouble.
