What can China learn from India ?

India has succeeded what Europe had failed, which is to create a nation out of many out countries, language, and such a diverse people. Even though the Brits unified India, the fact that India remains intact after lmost 65 years is a miracle in itself.

Amen to that. The only entity that can rival India is EU and even then EU don't have a strong central govt.

There are very few things that China should learn from India. To be frank, most of the time, it's the other way around. Anyway, here goes ....

1) The right of the citizen. Despite rampant corruption, mafia, gangs and political influence, one thing that hasn't changed for the past 65 odd years is the right of the citizen. The citizen of India is supreme. The constitution protects him to the hilt. He can boldly take the government to court over what he feels is an injustice to his life or to the society. The Right to information act only makes him stronger in today's world.

ideally yes, however practically, india has failed millions of its inhabitants in this regard, the biggest failure i believe is education, what good are rights if the citizen do not know they have them? of course education is being worked on but is still currently sorely lacking.

2)To respect one's culture or religion. Indian is diverse. Very diverse. However, we unanimously consider ourselves as Indians rather than any ethnic or religious community and for the most part are united when it comes to international issues. There is also a growing sense of respect to the fellow human being which bodes well for the entire country.I think this is also present to a certain extent in China.

china is a very diverse country as well, it has its problems but so does india with Kashmir and various terrorist groups within india thus i would say india has no significant lead in this area. in fact terrorist/separatists are a far bigger problem in india than in china

3) To have a logical dialogue over every single issue under the sky. We Indians do that a lot. In fact, it has been ingrained in us from the ancient ages. We are not afraid to voice our opinion on a huge range of topics. You can find people discussing and arguing for their points of view at all strata of the Society ( from television stations to the local tea shops)

if you live in china you will find that privately among citizens we talk about everything under the sun as well, that said, its obvious china has censorship and such. i do agree that more freedom of speech is needed in china

Regarding English proficiency, it's nothing great to boast about. A majority of the Indians, though they speak English, are rather poor at it's usage. Nevertheless , 300 million + people speak it with an acceptable level of fluency. You will be able to notice vast differences in the fluency and accents, as you move from the North to the South. A majority of the schools in all Big cities and Towns have English as their principal mode of instruction. Colonialism and servility for over 200 years have left behind a rather ugly scar on Indian society. The scar i'm speaking abuot, is that of people considering Fluency in English as a sign of good upbringing and social progression. This in turn provides an impetus for Indians to learn the language.

i dont think english means much, maybe for job/business but neither is that bad at english where it is a problem.

Everything else, I feel, India has to learn from China. Infrastructure, Education, Politics and Governance are some of the issues that I can think of.

The first thing China could learn from India is how to keep a nation together with all its diversities, problems, corruption, distances, differences ( that can be voiced at will), have multi party politics and so many more things which may seem as failings to non Indians.

All the above without the iron hand of a single party and snuffing out the voice and will of the people.

Kindness is reciprocal. You give some and you get some.

Do you know how many Democracies there are in the world? Why would we learn democracy from the one big country (India) that performs worse than us on pretty much every single development indicator?

Why not any other Democracy in the world instead?

How many democracy in the worlds work with such diverse demographics. All the west has low population, low population densities, similar culture throughout country. Point me a country as diverse as India, a democracy thriving in more complex conditions. If it was some western country, it surely would have been broken up by now.

But this is moot point, China is doing well without democracy.

I agree , China is somewhat at a developing stage with these, as the country gets more developed the major focus can be with social and political.

Following similarly what Korea and Taipei(Taiwan)did focusing on the Economy and Developing then eventually reforms in political issues.

for the 3 statements.

1. Agree, Development stage.
2. 56 Groups in China, however managed to respect and get along despite some problems, which will eventually be solved.
3. Now on many social Chinese sites, there has been an increased demand in that such as the government bowing to the demands of people on issues such as pollution and other trends.

Plenty of work still remains on improving.

China can learn in area of IT, English education system, etc......but I am sure India can learn whole lot from China.....and I thing we already doing that

But how long will the people of India stay together? India is in affect Britain, France, Italy, Germany, Neatherland, Spain and Portugal forming together as a nation. Today's reality would never join these countries together. But if an external force unifying them for 200 years, then they would start to think of themselves as one nation with many states just like India. However, would they separate again as the natural force that separates the people into countries such as the language and history would create a separation pull in the time of crisis and turmoil?

Than consider it due to a desire to stay together. We don't feel like we are being forced.

The answer to the part in bold above.

Forever.

I say this not because of patriotism , the bonding together shall stay because the is a release mechanism for the ppl to vent themselves. This happens twice every 5 years - one for state level elections and the other for national level elections.

The use of voice. The use of public agitation against social inequalities, right for education, right for food and most importantly against corruption.

China can learn how to successfully feed its whole population, educate it. China can also learn how to be non-corrupt from India, and China can have its streets role modeled on India...:cheesy::cheesy::cheesy:
