One thing I've done, is that been a student all my life. I'm not some really big class topper, but I've just never stopped. No matter how bogged down I'm at work I do make time for some IT certification or read up on some new professional standards or best practices.

I'm really interested to know what's the hot in demand thing people are studying these days?

I'm currently working towards a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. No matter which industry you belong to chances are a PMP would send you several grades up the corporate ladder.

If you're not doing anything then grab a book and start. The market is so fast. The next generation is always ready to run you over.

I too belong to me catagory, i.e. student for life. Always picking up some course or language.

I'm considering taking Mandarin lessons. Have done it before, the basic course in 1998 which lasted three months. Now there's an attractive offer to take Mandarin Course at Vrije Universiteit in Amstredam, lasts six months and they do have advanced courses aswell.

So China, here I come! :china:

I went through many courses online for it.

Couldn't get myself into the groove for it.

I love to learn languages but don't have the knack for it. I've lived in the middle east all my life and I can't speak Arabic. I think you already speak a few Euro langauges right?

Is that IELTS? Why do you want to do that if you're going to the US?

I always thought that's an Aussie thing.

What do you do in GLP? OpenGL, Direct3D sort of stuff?

I did some basic stuff with OpenGL and C++. Make 3D objects and play with the perspective a little.

PMP is surely in demand these days and since I am a Business Analyst now I will try it for sure but after some time. I started as a programmer and than transformed into a BA role and than started my MBA which is benefiting me in the field of IT as well.

Mandarin words are quite difficult to pronounce for us South Asians, little mistake and the word gets a complete different meaning.
For example, the word 'happy' and 'pregnant' in Mandarin is the same, just pronounced diffrently.
So if you want to make a chinese girl 'happy' be sure you pronouce it correctly ;)

I just finished my second year in Arabic, not sure if I want to take it further.

Yes I speak Dutch, English, German and French. Would love to learn Spanish aswell in future.

Me too, I just brushed a little bit of development in .net and php and went onto interfacing with the Business for the IT. These days I'm already doing an IT Project management role, so a PMP would be a solid credential here.

A PMP is a good track to jump off at the mid-career level into management areas.

Other things I have planned up after PMP would probably be ITIL V3 Foundation/ITSM, Cobit and of course complete my Masters in IT which I've left half way in between. University requires too much time.

You know I feel like I already know a lot more than what is covered in a Masters degree. But its the prestige factor, which has me mainly motivated.

I am doing BSCS from Fast-Nu Islamabad. And yes I would like to mention that I am the topper of my batch. I was also a topper of ICS Rawalpindi Board.
I am interested in MS in software project management and MBA. I think PMP should help.
