It got too expensive and too crazy for the middle class to want to stay. The working class doesn’t even have the funds to leave and is better off fighting the system to keeping living in California.
The corruption in state government and how it negotiated deals makes the taxes unsustainable. Projects that would take a few years to do in other parts of the world take decades to be build and are multiple times over budget. Not unlike New York.
It’s really the people that have to be there, and the rich people that want to be there that are left.
The cost is lien the rich areas in the north east (nice parts of Connecticut) and the poor parts are like Alabama or Mississippi
