What can be peacefull about any nuke program ? We need a nuke free world and by that I mean no nukes with anybody.

Regards

Ithink peace is exactly what has been assured in the subcontinent by the presence of Nukes. So paradoxically their destructive power and potentialhas brought Indiaand Pakistan closer top the mediating table. Having said that you are absolutely correct tin that nuclear weapons are offensive weapons in nature, so there can not be apeaceful nuclear rpogramme.

Not necessarily. It was the nukes which gave Pakistan enough confidence to launch Kargil in '99

We have a concept of common courtesy... Pehle aap (After you).

What he meant by "peaceful" is that, we had no intentions of going nuclear, however we were strong armed into it. The only people who had hostile intentions are those who went ahead with it first, and then even started threatening.

And it was the nukes which prevented India from attacking Pakistan after the terrorist attack on Indian Parliament building in 2002.

So basically Pakistan gained more from their nukes from India?

They could have atleast, if Kargil wasn't such a disaster.

One thought it was the inordinate time taken to get the IA ready for the assault by when the momentum had been lost. Thus necessitating the "cold start" doctrine.

In fact the nuclear bluff was called in 2002.

Nope the whole thing was a drama. India faked an attack on it's parliament and that's why only a few guards were killed. It was so ill-planned. Imagine charging into the Parliament... Only thing missing was a tarzan call "aaeeyaaeeaaaaaaaaa".

The trick was to get America to attack Pakistan along with India. Saying that while you're attacking Afghanistan you should attack Pak too. America didn't buy it, India kept trying for 10 months and then said ok its not working, lets go back.

sad.

May be. May be not.

I don't believe that India faked it. If you have any proof, pl. do let us know.

In fact I feel that the highest echelons of the GOP were involved in this just as they were in the IA plane hijack.

Nothing else explains the alacrity with which the freed terrorists entered Pakistan and started various terrorist groups instantly, almost as if the groundwork had been done for them.

Imho the benefits are equal for both sides, there's peace and thats what counts most.
I don't believe that India and Pakistan will go to war ever again.

They could have atleast, if Kargil wasn't such a disaster.
Kargil was victory nor loss for either side, border remained unchanged. Though it was a good lesson for both.

Yeah but thats the thing. Pakistan remained indifferent to the hijacking as on the face of it, it hurt India. But actually that Azhar dude hurt Pakistan after India freed him and then he started bombing Shias. How many Indians has he killed? Again another drama for which we fell for.

The proof for the parliament thing is that India did not attack. There's proof in itself. One million troops is no joke. Once mobilized you should attack whether or not America joins in or not. There was no intent to attack Pakistan unilaterally, and hence nothing happened.

Pakistan does not pussyfoot about its nukes. India falsely claims its nukes are for second use only. C'mon when Pak Army is marching into Delhi, would you not nuke the crap out of Pakistan whether or not its first or second use.

Pakistan openly declares this obvious fact, just the same as America does. We'll use it when we need to. We won't when we don't need to.

As per the Indian operatives who handled him, Azhar was no great shakes at all in custody. He used to sing like a canary. I guess people like him are only good to prepare others to die (and not dying themselves for a cause). If he has killed Shias too, it would only be confirming that terrorists are nobody's friends and must be dispatched by the first available blunt bullet.

The troops did not fight but got Mr. Musharraf to declare that Pakistan land will not be allowed to be used for terror against India. He also banned many outfits. So something did come out of the mobilization. Though I agree it was a letdown for many in India that an attack on the parliament was not avenged after such a buildup. But obviously by then USA had entered the picture.

But I don't understand the drama part here. Are you suggesting this too was an Indian intelligence operation? Taliban co-operated with India against Pakistan?

The idea of no first use is to de-escalate the situation and avoid the idiocity of the cold war with hair trigger alerts and chances of accidental nuclear war. Obviously in case of a national survival at stake they have to be used. Else why are they there at all?

.
And it was the nukes which prevented India from attacking Pakistan after the terrorist attack on Indian Parliament building in 2002.

That was not the reason.

It was the US pressure to not go to war.

Kargil happened even though there were nuclear weapons on both sides.

Kargil was disaster for Pakistan. It failed to gain what it desired and lost face and respect internationally, apart from appearing irrepsonsible. While India initially surprised, wrested back the terrirory, gained respectability as a responsible nation since it did not cross the LC and gained the goowill of the international community.

Pakistan Generals themselves feel it was a debacle, and the wrangles thereafter in Pakistan was so serious between the polticians and military that it ushered in another round of matial law and the carping and heratbreaks still continue to haunt Pakistani politics even now, after so many years.

now what do you think that means? do you remember this:

Pak fears K-15 could trigger new arms race
Wed, Feb 27 05:30 PM

New Delhi: India's nuclear neighbour, Pakistan, is worried by India's undersea missile test. The Chief of Naval Staff of Pakistan, Admiral Muhammad Tahir, said in Karachi on Wednesday that K-15's nuclear capability was of concern to neighbours like Pakistan.

Admiral Muhammad Tahir warned it could trigger a new arms race.

"My reaction is that this will trigger an arms race in the region. This development is taking place to put nuclear weapons at sea," he said.

He said the testing of the new missile would have an impact on the entire region.

The Pakistan Navy is tracking India's missile development programme and will take steps to counter the impact of the testing of the undersea missile, he said.

The Indian undersea missile, codenamed K-15, has a range of 700 km and was fired from a pontoon immersed in the sea as India did not have a submarine for such an exercise.
