Equivalent of class system in China was 士农工商：Official----Farmer----Craftsman----Businessman. The social status was not rigid, because China had strict hereditary system, only royal family had hereditary rights of imperial throne. All other social status were not solid, a businessman's son pass the official exam based on confucianism classics, serve the country and emperor, their status (including family members) changed by their own efforts.
