West Bengal government to spend Rs 22 crore for distributing special Ramzan food package

Mamata Banerjee's second term is set to be laced with freebies. She has clearly indicated her road map that reveals minority appeasement would continue. In a first of its kind in the country, the West Bengal government will spend Rs 22 crore for distributing a special food packet named as 'Ramzan package' in a subsidised rate through its public distribution system.

The packet would include sugar, flour and chick peas, the ingredients required to prepare Iftar recipes.

Speaking to the ET, Jyotipriya Mallik , state food minister said, "This is the first time that a state government has brought this kind of a scheme for the Muslim brothers and sisters. But we are not restricting these food packets to our minority brothers only. Anybody with acard can avail these. The ration card will bear a stamp of Ramzan food package after availing the scheme."


The packets would be distributed twice during the Ramzan month between June 7 and 24. Mallik further added that the government would continue with Rs 2 per kg rice for all during this period. The decision of doling out Ramzan package was preceded by another populist policy. After assuming office for the second term, Banerjee,in her first cabinet meeting announced largesse for the state government employees that have already added a financial burden of Rs 3,000 crore to the exchequer.

At nearly 30% of the West Bengal Population, Muslims are a huge enough minority which can tilt the scale of success in any Politician's favour , as a block vote. This means not just Mamata Ji ; but, rather any West Bengal Politician would be salivating at the mouth to attract this cascading vote in their favour.

Actually this kind of expenditure is designed to destroy the Muslims and permanently relegate them to the status of a "VOTE BANK" which becomes dependent on Govt. Handouts. If Mamata Ji was real friend of the Muslims, she would spend this money on Muslim Education and training to really empower them. But of course that is not her objective. She prefers to maintain her Vote Bank by making beggars out of these people living on Govt. handouts and keeping Banerjee in power.

It is a well established system that works (sort of) for both concerned parties. Muslims even post partition formed a major part of the elites that ran this country, be it bureaucracy, politics, or industries but eventually faded away because of not forming their own political identity. First Congress milked it for most part of the last century and now it's the regional parties' turn.

In case you didn't notice, most "smaller" riots and the subsequent tensions happen just before elections because then Muslims trade their education and development for security. Next election, rinse and repeat. One clear winner in such cases are not the right wing but the parties who have been fooling Muslims for past 70 years and will continue to do so.

It reminded me of this. The gentleman dressed as Arab is the current CM of Andhra Pradesh who took part in a Iftaar party I think and is surrounded by INDIAN Muslims.
