"We'll Stand With Friends...": US On India Amid Ladakh Row With China

Actually you are correct. India learnt this when USA gave this treatment to Pakistan. So no..we are not falling into that trap. But business...business will continue.

yeah. learn from Pakistan. but if you have no long term ally (business friends dont count), then who is there to help India when its in trouble? Pakistan for instance is trying to be friendly to the whole neighbourhood, whereas India has phadda going on with everyone.

.
Wrong comparison.
Great friend ? Yes may be.
But if you keep asking for free stuff forever, you should know one day the giver friend will stop giving. That's where the friendship turns bitter. That's what the friendship was. Unfortunately you are doing the same with China.

On the other hand, India has a business relation with USA. They will give as long as India buys. All this without getting into the habit of expecting too much or depending too much on Uncle Sam.
Your understanding of cooperation between Pakistan and USA is completely flawed. Free stuff was only provided till 60s when Pakistan was a new country and had no resources for its defense. But after that that there was no Free stuff ever! All equipment was bought from Pakistans own funds, such as F16s, Cobras etc. The CSF funds were for Pakistan Army operations and protecting convoys etc which were always audited as well - a lot of that also got blocked.
The issue is and never was the aid, but the fact that how Pakistan bore the brunt of flawed policies and alliances first against soviets and then against Taliban- in both wars Pakistan lost the most and then also got blamed for the failures. They will make you fight for wars and then drop you ( pressler right after Soviet collapse).

But hey if you really want this new job, knock your socks off. USA is looking for new Pehlwans to fight the rising Chinese power - and unlike Pakistan who atleast got funding and weapons to arm rebels against the Soviets, India will be actually paying for those weapons with cash along with doing the fighting - nice start in Ladhak so far.

Quite well put, showcases the difficulty in persuing national interests in face of an intimidating foreign one's.

IMO we've little choice in the matter, building your own takes time, patience and stability as proven by China's rise. We need the American market to grow just as they need ours. Our relationship with USA is different than that of China's or Pakistan, in scope and breadth.

Wow, that is great! US always standby its words.
the best example of standing with friends while they are coming to to its end, not to their ends.

Speaking on the India-China talks on the border standoff, Price said that the US supports peaceful resolution of the situation.

United States has expressed concern over Beijing's attempts to intimidate neighbours.

Washington [US]:

The United States on Tuesday expressed concern over Beijing's attempts to intimidate neighbours and supported a peaceful resolution to the India-China border standoff.

Speaking during a press briefing, US State Department spokesperson Ned Price said: "We are concerned by Beijing's pattern of ongoing attempts to intimidate its neighbours. As always, we'll stand with friends, we'll stand with partners, we'll stand with allies to advance our shared prosperity, security and values, in this case, the Indo-Pacific."

Speaking on the India-China talks on the border standoff, Price said that the US supports peaceful resolution of the situation.

"We are closely monitoring the situation. We know the ongoing talks between governments of India and China and we continue to support direct dialogue and a peaceful resolution of those border disputes," he said.

Price also referred to the talks between US State Secretary Antony Blinken and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, adding that the US-India comprehensive strategic partnership is both broad as well as multifaceted.

"We will continue to engage at the highest levels of our governments to deepen cooperation on many fronts and we are confident that the strong and upward trajectory of our partnership will continue," the State Department spokesperson mentioned about the India-US partnership.

This comes after India and China on Tuesday held bilateral consultations on issues on the agenda of the United Nations Security Council amid the military standoff on the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

According to a statement by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), during the video conferencing with the Chinese officials, the Indian delegation briefed the Chinese side "on India's priorities during its UNSC tenure."

"Both sides discussed a wide range of issues on the UNSC agenda. The Indian delegation briefed the Chinese side on India''s priorities during its UNSC tenure. Both sides agreed to continue their engagement on key issues on the UNSC agenda," it stated further.

The two countries have been engaged in a stand-off along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) since April-May last year. While China began amassing massive military strength along the LAC, India responded with a befitting build-up.

The Chinese have been asking India to withdraw troops and tanks first from the southern bank but India has been asking for disengagement from all the friction points.

Why does india need ANYONE to stand with it against China? According to indians on PDF, india is a more powerful superpower than China........... :disagree:

We'll Stand With Friends... until we don't

Nope....let me reiterate...Indi learnt from the treatment given to Pakistan...not 'learnt from pakistan'.

Coming to your query about allies...lol..**** USA. We don't need allies like that of USA.
We survived without them for almost always...(infact they were our adveseries considering it was your ally and also threatened us during 1971). Trust me this new coziness is nothing but give and take policy as long as it lasts between India and USA. They need us for certain things..we need certain things..when it's over its back to bases...till that time let us enjoy this win win. So in short...we don't trust USA.

America "given" stuff always comes with strings attached. Almost nothing comes free from anyone. Eventually the hidden costs of "free" stuff become too much and alliances change.
You are correct, India and the USA are not allies just two parties in a business arrangement to contain or frustrate China and expand global arms sales. this will reward thieves and villains while robbing the productive and creative in the West. So any aliens buying weapons will end up being enemies of the humans.

See I'll tell you.... Once you are an open ally and are the receiver without payments/discounts...you can't say No to the boss. We can, and we say NO whenever it suits our strategic designs. This WoT, you could have avoided being a part of the moment you realised it was harming your own interests but you couldn't. The damage was done before you could say no. Compare that with India. India who is facing the China on a possible war, will be more than happy to have American soldiers and machines on the Himalayas.

If you read your own link, you'll understand the kind of aid, we are talking about is different from what the article is all about. The article also says Israel recived 100 times more than India..should we focus in that ? Grow up.
