Just gas supply for Germany and Europe if Russia cuts off supply when the Ukraine invasion happens.
Qatar has massive LNG capacity. This is what USA wants on side.....not pipelines.Good luck to them getting Qatari gas out through Syria where Russia and Assad control important passages. There is an alternative through Iran (see the pic below), and Iran has in principle, agreed for this. But would the West give Iran what it wants in exchange? Clearly it is not just for the transit revenues here; they want more.

Whether they choose to go through Iran or through the rest of the Gulf area, Syria is their choke point. The time to arrange the pipelines would be significantly more than Putin asking Gazprom to shut the tap, if European armies so much as lobbed a single mortar shell at Russian troops.

European countries lack any independent geopolitical strategy. If they did.....then they would have diversified their gas supplies with more pipelines to MENA.Agreed.
But how do you plan to get the gas to a Europe in peak winters when they are in the middle of a military conflict with the only country that supplies them the cheapest gas logistically possible?
Answer: Pipelines.
Even if temporary gas tanker ships are provided, how many of them do you think would make it to European ports in the middle of a hypothetical European-Russian war?

Because Russia will simply be cutting their supplies. Europe is the biggest O&G client on the Western front. If the tap shuts then the prices skyrocket overnight world over. If Russia is harmed, then the world will suffer as well.European countries lack any independent geopolitical strategy. If they did.....then they would have diversified their gas supplies with more pipelines to MENA.
If war breaks out......why do you assume that Russia's energy supplies will not be impacted as well? NATO's deep strike capability dwarfs anything the Russians have ever experienced before.
