A fugitive suspected of duty-related and economic crimes returned to China and turned himself in on Thursday, becoming the first to give himself up after authorities issued an announcement calling on runaways for duty-related crimes to surrender in return for leniency.

Wu, 53, was board chairman and general manager of a textile company in east China's Jiangsu Province. He was accused of embezzling funds, misappropriation and loan fraud. He fled to Canada in November 2013.

Chinese authorities on Thursday announced that fugitives who turn themselves in by December 31 and confess to their crimes could be given lesser punishments.

As of the end of this April, over 4,000 fugitives were captured in over 90 countries since the launch of the "Sky Net" operation in 2015, according to the top anti-graft body of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

A total of 4,141 fugitives, including 825 state functionaries, and 52 on the "red notice" for the most wanted fugitives, were caught or returned to China, with nearly 10 billion yuan recovered, according to a statement on the website of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI).

The campaign against corruption suspects who have fled abroad has intensified this year, the Fugitive Repatriation and Asset Recovery Office of the Central Anti-Corruption Coordination Group said in April.

Corrupt people like the US.

Vietnam has one. I wonder where he hides in? :D

@Viet

But how come Hong Kong can have two? I guess the local authorities also do not know their whereabouts.

I don't even know who those two people are. If I remember correctly, HK police will bring the fugitives back to China as long as the thing they committed in China are also considered crime in HK. Moreover, HK is a small city and this is very hard to hide away from the police with today intensive surveillance camara in every streest and corner.

Fugitive graft suspect returns from Canada to surrender to authorities

Xinhua Published: 2018-10-06

A fugitive suspected of economic crimes in East China's Shandong Province has turned himself in to the authorities, only five months after he fled to Canada, the country's top anti-graft watchdog said on Saturday.

The surrender of Wang Weixin, 62, in just five month has again illustrated the unwavering resolve of the Communist Party of China (CPC) to eradicate corruption, said the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection in a statement on its website.

Wang, former head of Daxinzhuang Village, Jinan City, is suspected of involvement in a case of illegal transfer of land use right.

In the statement, the CCDI also urged fugitive suspects to let go of illusions and take the opportunity to surrender to the authorities as early as possible.

Fugitives who opt to surrender before Dec. 31 and confess to their crimes will be eligible for lesser punishments, according to an announcement jointly released in August by several central agencies, including the National Supervisory Commission and the Ministry of Public Security.

Any idea what a lesser sentence vs full sentence?

Any idea what a lesser sentence vs full sentence?

As far as I know full sentence means lifetime in prison and the confiscation of all personal assets by the public.

Lesser one is the payment of all the stolen money plus penalties and perhaps 5-10 years in jail (depending on the crime and the damage inflicted to public).

China extradites duty crime suspect from Bulgaria
Xinhua, November 30, 2018

Yao Jinqi, a duty crime suspect and former deputy head of Xinchang County in east China's Zhejiang Province, was extradited Friday to China from Bulgaria.

Yao, who fled abroad in December 2005, became the first former civil servant China extradited from an EU member state.

Coordinated by an office in charge of fugitive repatriation and asset recovery under China's central anti-corruption coordination group, it was also the first successful extradition case since China's National Supervisory Commission was established in March.

Born in 1956, Yao was suspected of taking advantage of his posts to accept huge amounts of money and property from others on multiple occasions and was listed in an Interpol Red Notice on Oct. 3, 2018, before being arrested by the Bulgarian police according to the notice two weeks later.

On Monday, a court in Sofia, Bulgaria made an arbitrament to agree to extradite Yao to China.

The extradition was a successful practice to convert the strengths of the country's supervisory system into efficiency in governance and showcased the achievements China has made in international cooperation in anti-corruption efforts over the years, according to the office.

"Justice will never be undone," the office said in a statement, telling all corrupt fugitives to turn themselves in as soon as possible for leniency.

I don't have faith in this anti coruption policy. In most cases, if not all, the Chinese agree to let the Canadians keep whatever money the corupt official brought to Canada, and China only takes the fugitive. Needless to say an equally corupted Canadian goverment has no problem keeping the money. Another failed policy. China is still letting the west get richer, and the west will, and has used that money against China, so as long as China isn't able to retrieve that money, then it's a failed campaign that is a dog and pony show. When China is able to slap sanctions on Canada for not returning the money, then we can respect China.

Don't respect? Then don't come back and stay in your shitty adopted country.

Look at this phony anti coruption campaign. One corupt offical going after another one. What does this solve? Gaigekaifang=coruption. The Chinese call it chaixiqiangbudongqiang. Taking off the west wall to fix the east wall. A failed policy indeed. I wasn't buying it from the begining, and I'm not buying it now. It's funny how these trols say "don't come back", yet the only overseas Chinese that China invites back are corupt ones, and that's precisely why China became so corupt over the past 40yrs, and now they want to act like they're against coruption. That only makes sense to a 5 yr old. This is why I say time and time again that China wont be defeated by external powers rather than by internal ones. Notice how all the current leaders were the ones who were targeted during the cultural revolution, and they want to say the cultural revolution was wrong. So who is really wrong? China allowed the heiwulei to get rich, and they are the corupt ones. 1/3 of the "rich" Chinese are either thinking about emigrating, or already emigrated. You can see why gaigekaifang is such a failure. The ones who stay in China are all buying imported products. They want to tell you that they want to allow the bourgeoisie to get rich first and the rest of China will follow. What a joke? Those bourgeoisie get rich, buy foreign products, emigrate overseas, send all their money overseas. I fail to see how that helps the rest of China, and actually it doesn't at all. When you call them out for it, they get triggered, and but hurt, instead of acknowledging their mistakes and correcting them. What a pity. Making mistakes is fine, ignoring them will cost you. Pay close attention to the similarities between the USSR and China.

Yawn... China's business is none of your business. You are already exiled so don't come back or even pretend to be Chinese.

How is it any of your business? Who said anything about being exiled or Chinese. Don't think I said anything about it. You shouldn't jump to conclusions. How many Chinese exiles praise the cultural revolution, or gang of 4? In fact, the so called exiles probably have more in common with you than not, because you're both counterevolutionary. You think because you're Chinese, you get to be a spokesman for China? Sorry, no one gave you that authority, just like the American shils have no right to represent the American people either.

In fact, do you realise how foolish your logic sounds? You're saying that in order for you to be able to talk about China, you need to be Chinese, and in China. OK, so according to your logic, all the China hating Hongers, and Taiwanese should be able to voice their opinions too? So why block their sites? Yes. No wonder there are such huge voices from HK/TW who are anti Chinese. And why is it no surprise that the most anti Chinese people are from HK/TW. Let them shine, and let them talk, and you should listen. Let it humble you.

This is a Pakistani forum, not a Chinese one. You can't control this. Besides, someone needs to talk about what's really happening in China instead of hearing about "economic miracle" fairy tales. Fairy tales do indeed get boring after a while. What I am saying is the real deal. No ClA psyop. I have no agenda. Unlike you.

Also, you are paid to say this stuff. Talk to any real Chinese workers from the cultural revolution, and they will tell you very similar things to what I am saying. All the old Chinese who could compare Mao and Deng praise me for what I say. I stand with the people. You are an enemy of the people.

It's a shame how glorious China used to be only for people like you to run it to the ground

LOL a big wall of text ending with "China is bad." Just stay in your shitty adopted country. Do your falungong meditation. Watch your Shenyun. Talk shit about China to kiss up to America. Get viciously discriminated against your whole life. Kill yourself by around age 30, single and lonely. Evolution strikes again. Nobody cares about the opinion of a community of traitors and their eunch sons. :enjoy:

Lol, that's a good summary of western Chinese lap dog.

Anti-Corruption policy works like this:

1. Surrender yourself willingly and return all the stolen assets in return for a more lenient punishment (and obviously no capital or life sentence).

2. Be forcefully caught and extradited, which means you will not be willingly return the stolen assets. This means you will face a very severe punishment, capital sentence in the most grave cases, all of your assets available to the government will be seized and add to the public treasury, and the stolen assets will be tracked. It depends on the case if any of the stolen assets will be recovered or not.

Nicely sums up.
