The Pakistan Super League has been a roaring success in its third edition with packed out crowds flocking to the matches as the tournament reaches its conclusion in Karachi today.

The semi-finals in Lahore also attracted huge numbers of fans hoping to see their team and the star international cricketers competing.

Despite the PSL’s growing success it is still a way off reaching the levels of popularity the Indian Premier League attracts.

The IPL, which gets underway next month, is one of the biggest T20 tournaments in the world with its popularity and money invested.

And Afridi now hopes Indian cricketers will be given the opportunity to play in the Pakistan Super League next season

At present, IPL players are not allowed to play in other foreign T20 leagues as per the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) rules.

"But we should at least try to invite them for the PSL,” Afridi said ahead of today’s PSL final between Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi.

“I know it is difficult that they will come as they only play in the Indian Premier League.

“But we should invite them for the next edition of the PSL.”

India and Pakistan have not played a full bilateral series together since 2008 with their rivalry one of the fiercest in cricket.

No top test teams have toured Pakistan since March 2009 when militants attacked the Sri Lankan team in Lahore leading to Pakistan being isolated as an international venue until now.

Since the attack, Pakistan has been forced to play all its bilateral home series in the UAE or other neutral venues

Sad to see that both countries have extended a never ending conflict to things as trivial as ringing each others doorbells and banning each others players from tournaments.

Even if PSL invited Indian players or IPL invited our players I'm 100% sure that we wouldn't see anyone going or coming simply because of the social outburst that will await them. You can even see the small mindedness on this very forum. We can't even tolerate our artists going to their country imagine the reaction if we saw our players playing alongside theirs. Sad state of affairs. Good on Afridi to look past their meaningless things and show this gesture.
