Weapons recovered from PTI leader's car near Bani Gala

Islamabad police on Sunday recovered six Kalashnikov rifles, magazines, a bulletproof vest, alcohol and tear gas shells from PTI leader Amin Gandapur's car outside Bani Gala.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Revenue Minister Amin Gandapur's car was stopped at a checkpost and searched. The car was impounded, while Gandapur absconded and his driver was detained by police, DawnNews reported.

Gandapur rejected police claims, saying he was travelling with two licensed Kalashnikovs, and that there was a license present in the car. Police recovered the license, he claimed, adding that the police let him go.

Police also arrested over 70 Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) protesters trying to reach party chief Imran Khan's Bani Gala residence in Islamabad's Rukhsana Bangash Road area, DawnNews reported.

PTI Chairman Imran Khan on Sunday urged party workers to reach Bani Gala even if they had to climb mountains to do so. Protesters will then move onto Islamabad on Nov 2 for the party's planned 'lockdown' of the capital, he said.

Police attempted to prevent protesters from trying to reach Bani Gala via lesser-known unpaved routes running through the wilderness by surrounding them on all sides. Protesters began stoning police and setting fires in the wilderness, after which police resorted to tear gas shelling.

A contingent of police led by Senior Superintendent Police Operations Sajid Kiyani used tear gas against protesters who were stoning them.

Police check posts have been erected from Link Road to Bani Gala to monitor the situation.

'PTI has a plan'
PTI's Ali Zaidi speaking to Dawn.com claimed police had surrounded the area around Bani Gala and were "not letting food, water or people come here."

"We have invited all PTI workers from across the country to Bani Gala and then we will reach Islamabad on Nov 2. We have a plan and a strategy," Zaidi said.

Although the government has closed roads near Attock, no other roads in the province have been blocked 'completely', according to Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah. Snap-checking of those heading towards Islamabad is being carried out.

The provincial government has also imposed Section 144, banning public gatherings across Punjab until Nov 8.

Uncertainty grips PTI workers
Three days before Imran Khan’s plan to siege Islamabad, confusion prevails in the party about the venue where workers will assemble.

A senior PTI leader earlier told Dawn there is no coordination between the leadership and the workers and the latter have to go to the Banigala mansion of Imran Khan to get information. Workers have also been asked to watch private TV channels to get updates on the situation.

PTI Spokesman Naeemul Haq told Dawn earlier, “The problem is the government is taking action against the workers and it will be difficult for the workers to gather at one point on November 2. The workers will be asked to gather at the point where the police would stop them from entering Islamabad.”

PTI 'lockdown'
The party has announced a 'lockdown' of the capital on Nov 2 if Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif doesn’t agree to an investigation into the Panama Papers leaks under the terms of reference proposed by the opposition or resigns from his position.

However, the PTI has apparently offered the government a way out of the prevailing crisis, suggesting that it enact legislation to constitute a judicial commission to probe the Panamagate scandal before Nov 2.

PTI Vice-Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Saturday told Dawn the government still has time to prevent the situation from worsening by convening sessions of the National Assembly and the Senate in order to pass the opposition-sponsored bill on the Panama Papers leak.

“If the government is serious, it can even promulgate an ordinance for the constitution of an inquiry commission under the terms of reference (ToR) unanimously presented by all opposition parties,” Qureshi said.

I was watching this news, PTI leader said that weapons were captured from his guards and made it look like it was captured from his vehicle. When their is so much distrust in the air its no big deal that propaganda from both sides will be at full swing. Having said that the blame lies with the government because they are ones who are constantly refusing to accept the highcourt directive in this regard about not blocking roads with containers and not arresting PTI workers. This is Baadshahat at its full and if and when the other side react, than dont blame them for inciting violence.
Here i would also like to add the 2 days back the government did not oppose when two militant parties held demonstration in the capital neither did they try to implement section 144 but on the other hand PTI which happens to be the 2nd largest party does something, all the sudden police and FC are deployed and shelling starts and people are arrested for expressing their opinion. All Hail to King Al Sharif and his version of democracy.

Tensions gripped Islamabad once again as police personnel and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers clashed with each other on Sunday for a third day.
PTI workers were intercepted by law enforcement personnel amid attempts to reach their party chief’s residence in Bani Gala. According to Express News, around 50 PTI workers have been arrested. All roads, avenues and passages have been sealed and security is on high alert. Police also fired tear gas shells on PTI workers to disperse them from gathering near the party chief’s residence.

Several bulletproof vests, one teargas firing gun, two SMGs, one hand gun, several bullets and a bottle of alcohol were recovered from Gandapur’s vehicle, sources said. The K-P minister was trying to reach Bani Gala along with a number of PTI activists who clashed with police before several of them were detained. Later, Gandapur arrived at Bani Gala.

Police fired tear gas in an attempt to disperse protesters from reaching Bani Gala’s residence. Two PTI workers were injured and one unconscious as police continue tear gas shelling. Protesters throw stones at police in retaliation.
PTI chairman Imran Khan earlier called on party workers across Pakistan to reach Bani Gala on Monday. “I urge all party members, who were supposed to come on Nov 2, to reach tomorrow,” Khan said. “Do not let any obstruction on the way stop you.”
PTI is primarily relying on its political bastion in K-P to provide manpower for its scheduled Nov 2 Islamabad protest which was preceded by a government crackdown on the PTI and its allied parties, particularly in Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
The arrest of PTI workers started on the evening of October 27 when the party tried to hold a youth convention in Sector E-11, hours after the district magistrate banned all kinds of assemblies and gatherings of five or more people in the capital.

Later, police and Frontier Constabulary personnel also laid siege to PTI chief Imran Khan’s Bani Gala residence, triggering clashes between his party supporters and the law enforcers which continued on Saturday. The situation in the city in general and around Khan’s residence in particular remained tense but there was no immediate report of any loss of life.
On account of the government’s hostile strategy, indicating its willingness to go to any extent to curtail the influx of PTI activists into Islamabad, the PTI leadership is not banking on its popular support from Punjab, at least not for the first day of the protest.
“The party’s senior leadership in Bani Gala has confirmed the revised strategy and the same message has been conveyed to the top party leaders in the K-P,” one of the cabinet members in the K-P government confirmed to The Express Tribune.
According to the revised plan that consists of mobilising masses from the K-P, the whole province has been divided into four administrative zones – Peshawar, South, Hazara and Malakand/Swat. MPA Shah Farman is heading the Peshawar region while South Region, Malakand Region and Hazara Region will be headed by Amin Gandapur, Mehmood Khan and Zar Gul, respectively.
The party has been paying special attention to the Peshawar Zone that consists of five districts, Peshawar, Mardan, Charsadda, Swabi and Nowshera. The PTI enjoys vast popularity in these districts with five elected MNAs and 25 MPAs. All these districts are located at a travelling distance of one to two hours from Islamabad.
“If we talk about Peshawar region alone, there are over 9,500 elected local government (LG) office bearers of the PTI,” said Engineer Hamidul-Haq Khalil, the PTI MNA from Peshawar.

Unlike Punjab, he said, the LG system installed in the K-P would benefit the most in terms of mobilisation of the masses with the presence of elected party office-bearers even at street level.
“The number of elected PTI’s LG representatives in the whole Peshawar region is around 25,000. Presence of elected representatives has been declared a must in November 2 protest,” Khalil said.
He said the PTI hoped that from Peshawar region alone these 25,000 elected PTI representatives would pull a crowd of nearly 200,000 towards Islamabad on November 2.
To facilitate the movement from Peshawar region, the PTI has established a base camp near Swabi interchange on Peshawar-Islamabad motorway. To overcome the issue of road blockades, Khalil said, main rally from Swabi would be led by two cranes and a bulldozer.
Talking about preparation at the level of Malakand/Swat region, MNA Saleem Rehman from Swat said the region comprises seven districts – Malakand, Swat, Upper Dir, Lower Dir, Chitral, Boner. The PTI’s elected LG members in this region, according to Rehman, are approximately 15,000.

“We are hopeful that crowd coming from the K-P and the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad on November 2 will be enough to teach a lesson to the corrupt regime,” senior PTI leader Dr Shireen Mazari told The Express Tribune.
However, she negated the impression that the PTI would chiefly depend on the K-P government, saying activists from all four provinces and Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK) would join Imran Khan on November 2.
The PTI MNA Shehryar Afridi from Kohat, which is part of South region, said the party leadership had not given any target in terms of bringing people to Islamabad. However, he said, efforts would be made to bring out the as much as people as possible.“I have no doubt what Khan Sahib has claimed that one million people will march to Islamabad on November 2,” Afridi said.
A senior leader said the party MNAs, MPAs, and activists had been advised not to travel to Islamabad before November 2.
“This direction has been passed as a couple of MPAs, Fazal Hakim Khan and Muhibullah Khan, along with their supporters reached Bani Gala well before time, on Thursday night. Also, Imran Khan has already advised that activists should avoid arrests and stay in the K-P until November 2,” he added.
Heavy deployment outside PTI chairman Imran Khan’s residence in Bani Gala continued on Saturday with sporadic clashes between PTI workers and law-enforcers. At the three check-points on the road leading to Imran’s house, the police kept checking all commuters by but let most the people through.
Just before the sunset, the PTI supporters threw stones on the police which fired tear gas in response. Elsewhere in the city, there were no blockades or disruption. However, heavy contingents of law-enforcers continued to man all the entry points of the city as shipping containers lay on the roadsides.
Separately, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Khan on Saturday removal of all hurdles from the roads which connect Islamabad with K-P, said the spokesman of Ministry of Interior on Saturday.
“Only on motorway a limited hurdle was placed last night as an armed group of 900 persons had attempted to get into Islamabad,” the spokesman further stated.
The roads which link K-P with Islamabad including the Motorway and GT Road had been blocked by the government to stop his workers to get into Islamabad to participate in the protest campaign.
