If I had to pick a world XI, based on captaincy alone, I would pick Dhoni, he's a major strength in your team. And you could see in the match how he dressed up the entire Pak batting line up to fall in the match. India played a very calculating game.
There are some simple reasons for this. One is rather politically incorrect, it's genetics, some parts of Pakistan breed naturally stronger and taller men, strong backs. But the reason we're able to have these boys train to be fast bowlers is because of role models.
Go see how the kids in the streets play cricket, all of them want to be fast bowlers like their role models. In India, you have hardly any pace role models, in recent memory at least, no kid wants to be Zaheer Khan, all want to be Sachin, or now Kohli.
It's role models. But Pakistan's recent talent is being destroyed, firstly, the greatest young pacer to come out in the last 15 years at least Mohammad Aamir, threw away his career, which I dare say would be rivalling the likes of of the best pacers in the world right now. That boy could swing the ball at incredible speeds, he was disciplined in his deliveries too, and incredibly smart, he knew how to hold a bat too.
Also, the shipping off of all domestic cricket games for team Pakistan abroad has hurt us badly, more than most people realise. In fact, I'm quite certain making selections and practising on those dead, dead pitches of the ME have killed the hopes of a lot of our pace. And I mean dead, those pitches are worse than the ones in India and BD. They do nothing for spin and even less for pacers.
I think the biggest issue with current Pakistani pacers is disciplined bowling, speed is fine, you can swing the ball, you can get wickets, but can they bowl consistently at a good length just outside the off-stump for many balls? No, just take a look at the pacers in that match before 45th over, all over the place, being thrashed by quality batsman.
