We love Chinese books, say Vietnamese students

Honest to say Chinese drama is more popular than in Vietnam, Korean films waves only comes to Vietnam in 20s this time with romace type. Korean films about history was rare and Vietnamese also dont care so much. From my point of view, Vietnamese has friendly feeling with Chinese than with Japanese and Korean, that is diffucult to say, of course dont mention to politic issues or some Chinese tourists behave. Generally I suppose Chinese are friendly than Korean and Japanese in some aspects based on Vietnamese's eyes

Yeah, CN is our bad neighbour but we can co-operate sometime while SK-JP are just mad guys like Pol Pot, dont know when they will follow their master to attack VN again.

I agree about "master" theses. Those at the end of the rope could at times be much fiercer than the one actually holding the rope. Like any other loyal minion.

It is very normal that Vietnamese like to read Chinese books, after all, that's the place where they get their culture, just as I got my culture from the Mainland. More or less, we are all the cultural product of the Middle Kingdom.

You are funny. How China is perceived depends much on how China action in the Sc sea. Vietnamese people in VN and oversea react to China actions, good or bad, not on so called as you or other Chinese say it, Vietnamese nationalists or Western boot lickers on this forum. I personally have balanced view on China. If I hate China, I would say differently. You just don’t know. China is a taboo topic in VN. And elsewhere in overseas. Most Vietnamese don’t want to talk on China.

Cool, some Vietnamese readers read Chinese books. But don’t you think it is too little? The Japanese stage yearly Japan festival in Vietnam. Where is China festival in Vietnam? You can do more but don’t want to by certain reasons.

That's total bullsh1t, how can that be considered as promote the beauty of a country when average Vietnamese are so poor that couldn't afford a trip to Japan, it's nothing but a political festival to show how Viet and Japan cozying each other. And we don't want to promote the beauty of China to Vietnam or more beautiful Vietnamese will cross border to settle in China , as matter of fact PLA and their predecessors had always done a very good jobs since millennium.

This is no surprise. The greatest epic poems of Vietnam Truyện Kiều 傳翹, is about the love between Chinese prostitute Vương Thuý Kiều (王翠翹) and a Chinese pirate Từ Hải (徐海).

In reality Vietnamese is just 20% further away from Taiwanese-Minnan vs mandarin. If Vietnam is in China, today, VN language will be yet another dialect. Vietnamese must admit they too are Chinese.

China's culture is already well-embedded. No need to hold such politically correct, ceremonial events. In the end, when Japan interacts with you, they are also bringing part of China's culture to you.

Ancient VN language is not Sino-tibetan but Austroasiatic. I have no doubt.

While Japan and korea is still non sino-tibetan, this is not so for Vietnamese. But the VN borrowed far too much from Chinese, even more than Japanese or Korea. It looks like Sino-Tibetan more than anything else.

However, it was written in Nom script, not in Hanji. Although Nom script originated from Hanji, it is still different because it can record pure Vietnamese words

ok I haven´t read the novel, just flied over a someone´s summary. my mistake.

I wonder two things though: why should a Viet novelist have written a story of a girl as central character in a country as China, when Chinese traditionally have a policy of "Trọng nam khinh nữ", women are considered as inferior to man. Second, the time of writing. About the Ming. Vietnam at that time (Dai Viet) had a terrible relationship to the Central Kingdom. similar today to the Chinese under CCP. Like the Ming, the PRC Chinese embrace narrow minded nationalism, thinking the time has come. Territorial expansion included. With Vietnam as the main target.

NguyenDu was a diplomat of DaiViet, he has chances to come to China, that is a reason why he know the story of Chinese at Ming regime.
