We do not value life in India: Dinesh Trivedi - India - DNA

Aggrieved over his resignation as railway minister after facing the wrath of Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee, Dinesh Trivedi today rued that there is too much of politics in the country and that the system should be above it.

"There is too much of politics in India and India cannot survive with too much of politics on a day-to-day basis. System should be above politics and it is applicable to every ministry," Trivedi, who put in his papers last night, told reporters.

He was asked whether the system should be above politics.

"If I as Defence Minister keep on changing generals every day then it is a body blow to the country I think we are getting behind," Trivedi, who had come to the Rail Bhavan to thank all the staff and Board members for their cooperation, said.

Trivedi, 61, has resigned yesterday ending his defiance and bringing to a close five-day drama after he incurred the wrath of Trinamool Congress for hiking passenger fares in the Railway Budget.

Lamenting the system, he said, "Even China is 50 years ahead of us. My benchmark was Japan because for 47 years there has been no death due to rail accident (in Japan).

"But in India, unfortunately, we do not value life. We take all these accidents lightly. How can you tolerate in Mumbai every day 10 people die (of rail accident). I think this is not fair to the people of this country," he said.

"One single death is not acceptable. I have tried for that in the Railways," Trivedi said.

Asked what wrong he did, he said, "It is upto the people to ask. I, as a disciplinary soldier, do not have to ask this question. The Railways is national property and as a discipline soldier I have to abide by discipline."

Bitter fact but true. Life has limiter value to those sitting in government circles. But the common man considers life very highly. Only thing is, he doesn't have enough power to show it.

.
In a country where 100,000 people die in road accidents alone, life really has no value

Survival of the fittest and the guy sitting in the chair is the fittest.

Know Chinese troll started the topic thinking Indians would attack the message:). Instead they agree. two different mindsets ( one who has no problem looking introspectively and the other where " image" projected means all)

great article and thank you for bringing it to light. The Minister who resigned is 100% right.

I even thanked the OP for it. You all should join in ! :D

he should be appointed back to the post, if any one should resign its mamta banerjee. this guys wanted to raise profits for railways to start high speed rail as soon as possible. mamta destroyed everything.

.
Indeed. There is no value for human life in India. there is value only for vote. Mamta knows this. she wants people to vote for her before dying in a train accident

Today I read a best comment on Times of India.
"Mukul Roy should have been Petroleum Minister instead of Rail minister."

. . .
mamta drags her leg in every issue esp if it is related to betterment of this country. Dinesh trivedi had vision abt safety measures in railways & for its implementation he was eying revenue generated from fair hike but mamta b***h ruined everything. i just hope in 2014 whichever party comes to power it forms govt on its own so that some petty allys can't act as roadblocks in growth of this country.

God the last time the Railway fares was revised was 6 years ago (I hope).
Railways in a huge assest that can generate great revenue for the Government, and it is not supposed to ask money from the Central Government for its smooth running, it should be giving the CG from its earnings.
Mr Trivadi, just raised the fair for the passengers by just 1 ps per KM, i dont find it a huge ammount, had I been the Railway Minister, I would have raised the fair by 10 pisa per km.

INDIA really needs to make all its government organizations profitable.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Guys lets not just bash Mamta here...Today we also voted against Lanka and this time the party responsible is DMK...The real issue is coalition politics...Since there is no clear mandate from people regional parties have gained strength...It is this power that is making us see regional issues taking precedence over national issues...If you look at bills brought in by govt. one must say some of them made lot of sense...However regional parties who are holding the govt. from their balls did not let any of that happen...

On the other hand there is a manifesto which these regional parties adhere to...Now you cannot expect DMK to ignore Tamil card otherwise it is curtains for them in next assembly elections. Same is true for Mamta...So once again the real power is coalition politics which unfortunately is going to stay...

In a country where 100,000 people die in road accidents alone, life really has no value

Great point, I was watching Top Gear India Special and Clarkson mentioned something like over a hundred people die on the roads of India each day. Government seems to do little to improve traffic problems and enforce driving regulation.

I think because India is extremely populated and densely populated very crowded cities and areas, people shoulder to shoulder everywhere you go in the cities (as far as I know) human life is just seen as a number, rather than a human or person.
