We can devastate India, our arsenals are not showpieces

What should India do in light of Pakistan's defense Minister's threat to devastate India?

Some of my thoughts

1. Invest heavily in ABM to safe guard key cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore etc...
2. Invest in surveillance satellite systems and monitor every military activity of Pakistan’s army
3. Equip Armed personal with cutting edge technology including new rifles, night vision equipment etc..
4. Increase the Rafale order by another two squadron.
5. Set up F16s/F18s assembly lines as soon as possible and try to reach 42 squadron strength as soon as possible.

Most importantly of all build military capability to react at the shortest possible time with a unified command structure combining Air force, Navy and Army, and build the mindset to take on any military adventurism both from state and non state actors from across the border.

Your thoughts will be valuable.
why don't India calls Pakistan's bluff and test them out? our army wont air burst nukes over population..even if india captures bahawalpur it will be a win ....but India is weaker a lot than it looks...

He isn't threating, all he said is if "Pakistan is under threat". It's India threating Pakistan. Listen carefully my friend.

Simple response of India should be not to threat Pakistan anymore, and be a responsible state instead of giving out empty threats which only makes India a joke around the world.

One must understand that every leader tries in general to do following
  1. Talk about capabilities which are a bit bigger than reality
  2. Rhetoric
  3. Boosting Morale
  4. Assuring Domestic Audience
  5. Also pass a msg to adversaries
Indeed its normal for all countries to do so, same like DM of GOP statement.

The best solution is ignore and do what we do normally... No point banging our heads or giving too much weight age to such talks from both sides..

moreover @ito , all 5 options or any one of them what you proposed cannot be bcz of a statement. Strategies and tactics are based on long term assessment of threat perceptions and threat indexes. In both these scenarios rhetoric and psychological speeches fall at the bottom most plateau of the pyramid.. The posture means nothing really.. Its the next 7 brick/plateau above that (yes we have a 8 brick plateau layered pyramid of threat index) which decides the strategies and procurement+modernization decisions are more from top 4 plateau based decision making process recommendations.

So in honesty, and In my frank opinion, dont give too much weight age to this news..

Completely FALSE notion expecially with regards to Pakistan. After 1971, Pakistan has ALWAYS seriously downplayed all it's military capabilities. So much so that pre-May 1998, the entire indian establishment claimed that it was impossible for Pakistan to EVER become a nuclear weapons state with or without Chinese assistance. We all know what happened to that indian fantasy & dribble. Pakistan however did nothing to counter these claims. Even more recently since early 2011, there is strong proof that Pakistan already possess the capability to produce H-bombs and thermonuclear weapons:

http://isis-online.org/isis-reports...g-nuclear-weapons-time-for-pakistan-to-rever/

In the american neo-con manifesto "the plans for a new american century", they explicitly state that the americans intend to invade/destroy Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Libya & Pakistan. Apart from Pakistan we all know what the fate of those other nations mentioned were. There is a REASON why the americans could not do this to Pakistan. It's the same reason why india could not attack Pakistan after mumbai 2008 & Uri attack earlier this month.

So when someone says that the Pakistan military is much more advanced, powerful, stronger than it publicly admits to and can destroy nations, history & reality has shown that these claims are usually true.

With the ongoing regional developments , Modi's endeavours to isolate Pak have failed. He failed to attack Pak, he failed to isolate Pak, he failed to unilaterally revoke IWT ....he took an extreme position and now cant handle its political implications, that is why a leader should never be an emotional religious zealot , anyways good for Pak,a delusional adversary is the best thing possible for us !!!

pakistan's share of IWT waters can be reduced without pulling out of the treaty

a statement by any politician of PML N, PPP, ANP, JUI simply means nothing and the whole world know that such statements are just empty slogans meant for point scoring.
