I only feel sorry for the salaried class (Govt workers, bureaucracy, MNC etc.), and nobody else. The reason is because these are the only people who have consistently paid taxes and shouldered their responsibility yet they are a paltry bunch (less than 5 million) in a shameless nation of 240 million people.

The rest deserve all the economic hardship and more that comes their way because finally the free-loading has caught up with everyone. All the subsidies are coming to an end with serious talk of privatizing PIA etc. The harder the economic crunch, the greater the urgency to do course correction (but those who learn from their mistakes do these things, our case is always an exception). One can only hope the current pain and what is to come will act as catharsis for this underperforming economy and nation.

All the subsidies are coming to an end with serious talk of privatizing PIA etc. The harder the economic crunch, the greater the urgency to do course correction (but those who learn from their mistakes do these things, our case is always an exception). One can only hope the current pain and what is to come will act as catharsis for this underperforming economy and nation.

For this, you need to go back to years of discussions on this forum. This reckoning was facing us for the past 20 plus years. Anyone who thinks this happened overnight is delusional.

We, as a nation, need to take ownership of our destiny. It won't be IK, NS, or any other Tom, Dick or Harry that will make us pay our taxes owed. It's not your place or mine to ask where our tax dues will go. Ours is to pay. This is where this nation has failed. We have the most dismal tax recovery rates in ALL of South Asia, let alone the world.

Shame on us and then we cry about the misery of those who cannot put food on the table. Do we not have similar people in BD and India? How are they being helped? They are helped by their governments who have money available to help. The reality is that what is siphoned in corruption still accounts for less than 30% of the overall. In India, there is corruption that is leaps and bounds greater in absolute value than what we see in Pakistan, yet the country runs. So put the siphoned money aside, the rest can still benefit the people yet we, as a nation, have to pay up for the government to be able to spend. Since we don't pay, successive governments are forced to take out loans and thus the situation we find ourselves in.

I don't know how much simpler this can be made. The emotional blackmail has run its course and does not work anymore so stop peddling this mantra. There is no civic responsibility felt in Pakistan. The result of this apathy is in front of everyone.

Make it 30. That is when the 'New World Order' came, and bloc politics and the associated rental income went away. Now it is eat what you hunt (or grow/gather for the vegetarians) era. No hunting, growing or gathering skills? Sir Darwin is not pleased, and he will unsurvive you per his law.

Electricity theft in Pakistan is estimated to be above 500 billion PKR or above $1.6 billion USD. Who knows how much uncollected bills there are?

Do I feel any sympathy for people there? Nope.

Everything in Pakistan is self-inflicted. On every turn, we as a nation have taken short-cuts. We talk of Islam being our north star yet we are the furthest away from practicing it in letter and spirit. We cheat, we lie, we don't pay back our obligations, yet we expect everything and more in return for being Pakistanis.

Never have so many taken so much in return for so little from a country. This is the situation in Pakistan.

Just a minor blip. Ups and downs are part of a country's journey. We will turn the corner sooner than later iA.

You all worry about what is to come in the coming years. India, in terms of social cohesion, is where Pakistan was in the 80s. Economically, we are where India was in the 90's. Food for thought for all.

Lol. Sitting from outside, all can stand in judgment of India's social cohesion. We are stronger than ever and has better law and order than ever. Just because you highlight the plight of extremists of some religious groups doesn't automatically make social cohesion of India in danger. The regular Indians of all castes, creed and religions are just going about their business as usual and happy with the present evolution of India.

India collectively identifying and taking pride in our historical identity and as such we engage with the world in the equal terms rather than in subservient terms. This is good for all parties involved.

If India is Pakistan of 70's and 80's, muslims of India would have been knocking at the doors of Pakistan and Bangladesh for saving them like Hindus did. You are seeing the opposite where people of AJK and GB wanting to join India back and Bangos still pole vaulting into ours. Please stop projecting your inadequacies on to India.
