We Are in This Crisis because of the Decisions of the Chinese Government

As a country, we’ve got our hands full right now. But while we’re sitting in various forms of self-quarantine, we — and a lot of other people around the world — will have a lot of time to read about the Chinese government destroying samples and suppressing information about the coronavirus in December:

Chinese laboratories identified a mystery virus as a highly infectious new pathogen by late December last year, but they were ordered to stop tests, destroy samples and suppress the news, a Chinese media outlet has revealed.

A regional health official in Wuhan, centre of the outbreak, demanded the destruction of the lab samples that established the cause of unexplained viral pneumonia on January 1. China did not acknowledge there was human-to-human transmission until more than three weeks later.

The detailed revelations by Caixin Global, a respected independent publication, provide the clearest evidence yet of the scale of the cover-up in the crucial early weeks when the opportunity was lost to control the outbreak.

And the Chinese government’s attempt to silence doctors warning others about the disease:

As word of a mysterious virus mounted, Li Wenliang shared suspicions in a private chat with his fellow medical school graduates.

The doctor said that seven people seemed to have contracted SARS — the respiratory illness that spread from China to more than two dozen countries and left hundreds dead in the early 2000s. One patient was quarantined at his hospital in Wuhan, China, Li said. He urged people to be careful.

Li and seven other doctors were quickly summoned by Chinese authorities for propagating “rumors” about SARS-like cases in the area — but their warnings were prescient. Soon, health officials worldwide would be scrambling to combat a novel virus with a striking genetic resemblance to SARS.

And the Chinese authorities spending January “denying it could spread between humans — something doctors had known was happening since late December — and went ahead with a Chinese Lunar New Year banquet involving tens of thousands of families in Wuhan.” Doctors say that in Wuhan, people who had no connection to that Hua’nan market were among the first showing the symptoms — suggesting that from the beginning, Chinese authorities should have understood that human-to-human transmission was already happening.

Even by the Chinese government’s own account of events, President Xi Jinping knew about the disease for two weeks before making any public comments about it.

Under fire for its response to the coronavirus epidemic, China’s authoritarian government appears to be pushing a new account of events that presents President Xi Jinping as taking early action to fight the outbreak that has convulsed the country.

But in doing so, the authorities have acknowledged for the first time that Mr. Xi was aware of the epidemic and involved in the response nearly two weeks before he first spoke publicly about it — and while officials at its epicenter in the city of Wuhan were still playing down its dangers.

The Wall Street Journal calculates that the Chinese government “let some five million people leave Wuhan without screening.” Chinese medical authorities were much more concerned about preserving Wuhan’s reputation than the contagious, deadly disease:

The hospital’s leadership also banned staff from discussing the disease in public or via texts or images, Dr. Ai Fen said. Eight days later, a nurse in her department started to feel sick, and it was later confirmed she was infected by the coronavirus. By early March, three doctors at the hospital had died from the infection.

Even today, prominent Chinese citizens who criticize the government’s response suddenly disappear. The Chinese government is much more effective at stopping the spread of information about the coronavirus than stopping the spread of the coronavirus. Pardon me, the “Wuhan virus.”

We are in this mess in large part because of the decisions of the Chinese government. And once it’s safe to come out, we’re going to face some extremely consequential decisions about how we choose to treat the Chinese government after their catastrophic secrecy, coverups, blundering, and disregard for human life around the globe.

Talking about taking things out of context. Read the original Caxin report, the Chinese CDC order all testing and publication to be through designated center, a gag order were put on others facilities and staffs. Research lab in Guangzhou, Shanghai etc all have received samples and filed separate reports. This is no different from what the US CDC have done. Of course what the media focus on is the later part without even mentioning the first. BTW, the WTO was already alerted on Dec 31.

YOU are in this crisis because your federal reserve thought it could print fake paper money endlessly...

It’s so ironic, that a small crisis such as this could bring down the whole house of cards.

No shit... Authoritarian regimes works on control of information, China is extremely worried about their image abroad that they go to large extent to correct them. From forcing airlines to comply to onechina, banning companies for even putting wrong maps.

Chinese foreign ministers were criticizing the US for travel ban, and threatening other small countries from taking such "racist action", guess what, Italians fell for it. Half a million Chinese immigrants living in Italy traveled freely to and from China and they are reaping the benefits.

Italian journalist accuses Germany of coronavirus cover-up: 'Shame on you!'
ITALIAN journalist Mario Giordano has accused Germany of a coronavirus cover-up, after a team of scientists in Milan discovered the coronavirus epidemic came to Italy via Germany and not directly from China.

On Wednesday, Italy imposed sweeping nationwide restrictions on travel and public life, in a desperate attempt to contain the coronavirus outbreak that looks set to plunge the world's eighth largest economy into a steep recession. The measures announced include travel restrictions on 60 million residents, a ban on public events, the closure of schools, cinemas, museums and gyms, restaurants, bars and shops. The Government took action as the number of deaths caused by coronavirus reached 827 and infections topped 14,000.

The restrictions are in place until at least April 3.

Ever since the contagion first came to light in the prosperous northern region of Lombardy on February 21, scientists have been hunting for the so-called “patient zero”.

After extensive analysis, the Milan team has not yet identified the individual at the root of the worst outbreak in Europe, but they have matched the Italian genetic sequencing of the virus to a case that emerged in Germany in January.

Massimo Galli, head of the university research group and of the infectious-diseases department at Milan’s Sacco hospital, said: “The sequence closest to the base of the branch, which is the one that probably precedes the others, came from a person infected in Munich in all likelihood between January 19-22."

Mr Galli added that the German patient had caught the virus after contacting someone who came from Shanghai.

“We can imagine that a person who contracted the virus in the context of those infected in Munich came to Italy and the area where the virus first spread without showing any symptoms,” Galli told Reuters.

He said their analysis showed that the Italian outbreak must have started between Jan 25-2well before the first patient was officially diagnosed in the northern town of Codogno.

In a video posted on his Youtube channel, famous Italian journalist and writer Mario Giordano accused Germany of a "coronavirus cover-up", as he claimed that despite knowing that the virus had been present in their country, German officials kept quiet.

He said: "The news that the first case of contagion would have been in Germany has not had enough visibility.

"According to studies, Germany has known about this since the end of January but kept quiet.

"They didn't say anything.

"This is shameful and incorrect behaviour.

"It should spark indignation in this country – which for the past two weeks has been under attack from all over the world."

Mr Giordano noted: "There is this image of Italy being plague-ridden. And then it turns out that the virus came from Germany.

"They knew everything but didn't say a word."

According to the latest figures, Spain has now surpassed 6,390 confirmed cases, with Germany and France nearing the 5,000 mark, while Italy has reached at least 21,157.

The UK now has 1,140 confirmed cases.

At least ten European countries have put in place border closures, including Denmark, Austria, Slovakia, Ukraine, Hungary, Poland and the Czech Republic.

Furious Italian MEP criticises Brussels for abandoning Italy - 'Our patience has ran out!'
A FURIOUS ITALIAN MEP has criticised the European Union for sending billions to Turkish President Recep Erdoan while abandoning its third largest economy Italy during the coronavirus.

A furious Italian MEP has launched a scathing attack on the European Union for abandoning member-states like Italy during the coronavirus. Annalisa Tardino took Brussels to task for appearing to agree to send billions of euros to Turkey this week - but falling silent when Italy requested aid. There is growing concern within Brussels that the long-lasting impact of the coronavirus could end up tearing the EU apart.

Speaking in the European Parliament this week, Ms Tardino spoke out against the EU’s "surrender" to Turkey when President Erdogan opened his country’s border with Greece.

In response, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen appears to have agreed to send billions of euros to Istanbul in a bid to avert a migrant crisis.

Ms Tardino lashed out at EU chiefs for their "weakness in the face of Turkish President Erdogan's blackmail".

The Lega MEP also criticised the silence from Brussels in the face of the cornavirus crisis throughout Italy.

Italy, which has been the hardest hit European country, asked for urgent medical supplies under a special European crisis mechanism.

However, no EU country responded to the call for help and instead China had to step in to help Italy.

Germany even banned the export of medical masks and other protective gear after the request was made.

Matteo Salvini, leader of the Lega party, hit out at the European response, saying: “Italy needed help and it has been given a slap in the face.

"The only help that has come from Europe has been to cause the collapse of the stock market and to make the spread go crazy. Yesterday Italy lost €68bn of savings.”

Ms Tardino echoed this, saying: “The situation of the hotspots in Greece, which we had already discussed in vain, has taken on even more dramatic, more tragic feature due to the weakness of Europe in the face of Erdoğan's blackmail.

“Islands are now holding six times their regular capacity, children are living in inhuman conditions in refugee camps, and millions of immigrants are arriving from Turkey.”

The MEP added: “It is a devastating, bleak picture. Greece is alone, as was Italy.

"And what does Europe do? It is reaching out to Erdoğan, as if the billions of euros handed over already were not enough.

“This, while we cut the funds for agriculture and while Ms von der Leyen is still weighing up whether to support Italy in the face of the coronavirus emergency.”

“Rather than punishing Turkey, we are negotiating. This is the Europe we don't like! The time at your disposal has run out, as well as the patience of European citizens."

The Wuhan Virus is going to affect everyone not just the West.

That one chinese foreign ministry spokesperson tho.

US military brought the virus to Wuhan!

You really can't make up the depths these degenerates will go to save face with their colossal (repeated) mistakes.

Then there's the gang of 50 cent troll-farm here being super cringey on top....with all the strawman and whataboutism and silliest, ill-educated, ill-thought out forms of deflection possible....only possible with such a permeated hive mind psyche.

Here of all places too (given the sheer scale of massive social media churn taking place elsewhere on this topic that is far higher relevance and priority to shape and try counter).

It must be some punishment outpost for them to be stuck here ....like a siberian gulag guard assignment lol.

Maybe "best" most "loyal" and "persistent" among them can get promoted to a uighur camp "re-education" "instructor" later. The glories of a face-face job must be somewhat promising to troll-farm virtual lame repeated shift-work.

Exactly, the coronavirus was just pin to prick the hyperinflated bubble.

If it wasn't the coronavirus, it would be something else to prick it.

Trump's reckless fiscal monetary policy was simply Obama's version on steroid, and finally he will face the imminent day of reckoning.

Ridiculous, the US economy was well on its way to another 2-2.5% growth year until the Wuhan virus. Now the ENITIRE global economy is tanking, including China's.
