This IPEF so far is only a talk-shop, with no concrete action points.

The only salient point is - China is excluded from it.

Ignoring China (and 800 pound Gorilla in Asia economically) is a formula for failure. Period.

This type of direct economic confrontation of a large country like China is a bad idea.

The US is grasping at straws unfortunately, this is not the way things should be done, putting carts before horses.

Bangladesh absolutely must join IPEF and needs to be there from the very beginning.

It is irrelevant if this is an anti chinese group. BD must not constrain itself ever, it must also enthusiastically embrace belt and road chinese initiative.

Well Malaysia for one country is not going to be a part. This is the same as Obama's ill fated Asia Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) which ended up nowhere.

Like Malaysia, Bangladesh is also a potential huge recipient of Chinese industrial investments and export industries powered by Chinese equipment. It already is quite a bit.

Angering the Chinese at this stage is a very bad idea.

the problem is that IPEF is there to enrich India, which is not another China.
India has a immature foreign and trade policy. It explains why india still remains a regional power and why they lack the influence of China.

India is not cohesive like China is and has a much smaller economy and technological base.

That explains the reason why India has nowhere near the influence of China.

The first meeting has been held

Are there any benefits to BD and if it is not anti-China then go for it?

If not, BD needs to stay away.

Exactly.

TPP got nowhere. meanwhile the countries that participated in TPP had already soured their relationship with China.

Before jumping in with both feet into IPEF, we have to weigh pros and cons.

China has already opened up entire Chinese economy and market for our exports - free of tariff for the most part. That takes a lot of goodwill to do.

Should we dishonor that goodwill? Why?

How will IPEF or US match this facility that the Chinese have offered us??

There is highest tariff on almost everything we export to the US, while Vietnam has a lot lower amount.

The US did not do us any special favors trade-wise, far from it.

And we mainly just export one product to the US - Underpriced clothes for Walmart and Target. Imagine. We are not even a trade rival and they pull this on us.

Their poor folks would have a hard time buying these clothes cheap without our exports.

Other countries have lower tariff on exports to the US as well. Why this step-motherly behavior??

@Homo Sapiens bhai - would you agree with this?

For those who think that the US can easily move away from nearly 10 billion US dollars of cheap garment exports are living in a fantasy world.

US economy is suffering from severe inflation and sanctioning BD garments would hit their poor even harder,

BD is also moving into the home electronics sector and it is offering an excellent price:performance ratio there.

It needs to keep on this path and in 10-15 years it should become a relative equal of the Western countries and they would suffer in any trade war as much as BD would.
